INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WORLD OF BOB DYLAN
This article has the answer. Or at least proposes an assumption.
I'm Necko. I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.
I'm also ewe2 on weekends.
Most likely to post things that make you go hmm... 2015, 2016, 2017.

It’s kind of annoying, because it makes it really difficult to actually discover him and see if you like him or not.

Prince’s lawyers do the same thing, and Prince himself has said stuff akin to “If I could destroy YouTube, I would.” (He even demanded footage of Radiohead covering a Prince song in concert be taken down, despite Thom Yorke begging him not to.) Yet he wonders why he doesn’t gain any new fans. Here’s what the Beatles and many others have figured out: while you don’t get any money from YouTube, you do get attention. Use it to your advantage.

I don’t mind studio recordings being taken down, but if you demand an unreleased live video should be taken down, that’s really a jerk move.

I’d understand it more if it was the other way round (official material available, unreleased not) but then you can easily download youtube video’s thru numerous plug-in’s and websites (as you can other similar sites) so what does it matter? If someone wants to download Dylan off the net surely they are far more likely to use a torrent site, blogspot etc to do so instead of getting a video file and having to convert it – if its the full album you even have to cut it up to get the individual songs.
And more artists might be getting removed due to ongoing disputes over royalties between Google and record companies.

I don’t even want to download any Dylan — just want to listen to some songs. Anyway, I almost never run into problems like this with any other artist I look up, pertaining to a wide diversity of genres.

I haven’t found it on youtube, haven’t looked elsewhere, but if you get a chance to watch the Subterranean Homesick Blues video, it’s classic. It shows up in documentaries occasionally.

Yeah yeah YEAH “Subterranean Homesick Blues” Love the song, video, etc. so much…it really captures its time. Dylan helps invent rap! His self-conscious unselfconsciousness shines through in the way he tosses those cards. <3
I wish I knew what Ginsberg and Neuwirth were talking about there at the left of the frame throughout…

Good question, vonbontee, I think it’s safe to say they weren’t talking about women. Maybe they were bitching about how many takes Pennebaker had to shoot because Bobby was too stoned to flip the cards in sync with the song?
Hey! Neuwirth is still alive, so, maybe he remembers. Let’s give him a call!

Hahaha!
Those cards are fun to look at all by themselves, with the hip calligraphy and the weird spellings and the occasional wrong lyric.

No, he was quite a beautiful young man, with those curls and that nose and cheeks. I’d have thought he was pretty dreamy myself if I was a young woman in the mid-60s! (Or maybe if I was a worldly young woman today, who knows)

Getting back to the purpose of this thread, I agree that many studio versions of Dylan songs are no longer (at the moment) posted on YouTube. I was able to find a fair amount of studio audio originals currently uploaded. Most are used as soundtracks for video content created/posted by YT members. Here are some examples. Not intending to provide a road map for the Sony Flying Squad, I haven’t listed many…

It all seems very odd from a marketing perspective. My son wanted to listen to Bob singing Blowin’ In The Wind and was stunned it wasn’t on the tube. Luckily I had the CD nearby and a choice of mono or stereo

^ it a because when other people upload it they don’t get money. Bob Dylan should get a VEVO thing if he doesn’t already have one.
