Mine was KISS Alive II on 8 track in 1977 or 78. Before that I used to love Jesus Christ Superstar, which belonged to my parents on vinyl, and my dad’s various 45s of things like Bill Haley, Elvis, and Fats Domino.

I used to listen to my brothers albums so I didn’t need to have my own music at the time. They had stuff like Guns “N” Roses, Motley Crue, Metallica, and AC/DC and then when my Mum pulled out her old Beatles records I listened to them so I had a lot of music around me before I bought my own.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

I’m not sure what my first album was, because I listened to a lot of my parents CD’s as a kid. If I had to guess, it was probably my Paul McCartney All The Best! (US) CD that I got from my parents for Easter when in was in third or fourth grade.
As for my first vinyl album, it was Paul McCartney ‘s RAM which I got back in December.

I’ve said elsewhere (“Albums You’ve Recently Bought”) what the first CDs I ever owned were. The first was the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone soundtrack in 2001. The first one that I owned that can even remotely be considered a rock album was The Beach Boys ‘ Pet Sounds in 2002.
I’m a little fuzzy on what my first vinyl was. It was in 2003 and I think that I bought four or five albums at a single flea market (Kane County Flea Market in Saint Charles, Illinois, to be specific). I know for sure that I bought the White Album and Abbey Road . I also know for sure that I bought a Kinks greatest hits compilation from the early ’80s. I don’t remember for sure what the compilation was called. It might have even simply been Kinks Greatest Hits. The other two albums are just educated guesses. I think I might have bought Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas and Double Fantasy .
I don’t have a got-dang clue what my first cassette was, because I had cassettes earlier than the other two formats. If I had to guess, I would say that I was four or five years old, which would put it in 1996 or 1997. It may have been earlier than that. I have no idea.

Great score, The BEATLES and Abbey Road , 2 studio albums by The Beatles in one go and 2 of their best as well.
As for what my first album was, i don’t know although i do remember my mother having a Kelly Clarkson CD around 2005 and my father having Holy Diver and Master Of Puppets on cassette.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

The first CD I ever got (I’m too young to have bought cassettes or vinyl) was the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. I now shudder thinking I ever enjoyed such a thing. Disco is very much dead.

Um… The first CD that I specifically requested, rather than just lifting it from Silly Dad’s collection, would have been A Hard Day’s Night .

I did a little digging today and found the Kinks record. It was called Kinks Collection and was released in Italy (I was unaware of this until today).

I was a big Michael Jackson fan from about the age I was about 6 until I was 9 (I still like his music, but I’m not such a superfan as I was before.) My first album to my knowledge, was the This Is It compilation released around the time of his death on CD. My first single (vinyl) was his Leave Me Alone/Human Nature (I bought it at a car boot, but haven’t played it since (maybe I should)). However, my first LP was The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl, which I bought in summer 2016. I haven’t played that either, but it’s probably going to be more of a feck load of screaming than music.

Ah fake fan, you became one after his death .
Probably the only person I know more about than George Harrison is Michael Jackson. I’m a massive, massive, massive fan! I have Dangerous on constant rotation in my car but I love everything he did (although Off The Wall is probably my least-favourite, it still is a good record).
My favourite album is BAD though, every track on that is excellent. I have the Special Edition which is great BUT there’s bloody interviews with Quincy Jones tagged on at the end of the album so when I’m playing it in my car every 40 minutes I have to skip about 6 tracks of interviews. It’s very annoying (I should probably get around to buying BAD 25 >.> I got the Wembley concert a few days after it came out though. Brilliant show!)
My party trick is my ability to do Michael’s (and his backup dancers) choreography to any song he performed live or in a music video. I spent HOURS as an 8 year old watching his videos until I had all the moves down. It becomes a liability when I’m driving or out in public though as my muscles immediately go into Michael Jackson Dancing Mood if I hear his music.

If we’ve expanded the discussion to include CDs, then my first would be Alice Cooper’s 1969 debut, “Pretties For You”, out of print for years but rereleased on disc in ’89. I bought it and my first CD player on the same day in about May or June of 1990. Still got the disc; the player lasted until ’99.

To actually answer the question:
My first single was a Dutch pressing of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller/Things I Do For You’. I paid like €1 for it in 2007, it’s now worth €7, so, that’s great. (I imagine you all know the first song, if you don’t then…… but the second song you’ve probably never heard of. It’s a Jacksons’ song from their 1978 Destiny album, and the version on the Thriller single is from The Jacksons’ Victory tour in 1984. I much prefer Michael’s BAD tour version myself, it’s got more energy to it).
My first album was Revolver which I got in 2012(?) (and I know there’s a big gap between my first single and my first album, vinyl wasn’t ‘a thing’ here in the late 2000’s, I had to go to France to buy Thriller). It’s your bog-standard 2012 release unfortunately.
My first CD was The Essential Michael Jackson (of course it would be) in 2006. Anyone who is anyway interested in MJ, I would recommend to pick up that CD over any other. The first CD features music from The Jackson 5, to The Jacksons, to Off The Wall, and Thriller. The second disc has BAD, Dangerous, HIStory and one track off Invincible (which is a crime, Invincible is such an underrated album, the songs on it are so fresh you’d think it was released today). Whichever songs are your favourite you can go check out the album that they’re from, and find out your favourite Jackson era!
The French had an excellent ad for it, every now and again I go back and watch it because that’s how much I like it!
My first cassette was probably George’s ‘Extra Texture ‘ which I bought in 2014 for €2 because I could never find a CD release of it that didn’t cost over €12 (I’m sorry ET but you’re not worth €12 ).
(See this is what happens when you start talking about MJ, I go on my big rants 😉 ).
Edit: I’ve posted this before but Michael and George did an interview together in 1979! The quality isn’t great but you should be able to hear what they’re saying. They’re discussing the top hits at the time.

The first album I ever listened to in full was… (don’t include a drum roll because it won’t blow you away)… Save Rock And Roll by Fall Out Boy. I don’t remember how I came across it, but I was fascinated by ‘The Phoenix’ and ‘Light Em Up’ so I listened to the full thing. Both songs had an energy that most things I heard around that time didn’t. I’ve grown out of that album since but I am eternally grateful for how it got me interested in music.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

At the ripe old age of 10, I found myself, with $10 in my pocket, looking at the record racks at Alexander’s (a now long-defunct department store.) I had purchased 45’s before, but this was the day I would make my first album purchase. I poked around. What would it be? It didn’t take me long to settle on this:
In retrospect, it’s kind of an odd choice…but I suppose Capitol was promoting it heavily at the time…and look at all the hits in that track listing!
I took it home and absorbed George Martin’s liner notes, all about how the 3 track masters were sonic sludge until they used some super modern studio wizardry to fix it up. I looked at those phony tickets, the photos of the crowd…it was magical. Then I put the record on and heard Bob Eubanks yelling “And now…here they are…THE BEATLES.” followed by the deafening crowd noise and the opening of “Twist And Shout .”
It’s a ramshackle piece of crap album but I played the S**T out of it and loved it endlessly.
It was my gateway drug to a lifetime of Beatlemania…

The first albums I got that were mine was The Beatles mono boxset (so Please Please Me through The White Album and Mono Masters). I got it for Christmas when I was twelve.
My first vinyl purchase was for Rubber Soul (Capitol version), Venus And Mars (which included cool stickers and posters), and Ringo by our lil Richy boy.

MJ/George meeting is cool! It would’ve been right around the time when my Dad told me that George was one of the Beatles, after I identified “Blow Away” on the car radio. Michael Jackson, who was all over the radio that year (and used to be in the Jackson 5 – later, just The Jacksons) didn’t need any such identification.
