Looking at my 1987 copy of Derek Taylor’s “It Was 20 Years Ago Today”…I’m moving out of the apartment where I’ve lived since 2002 and it’s one of the few books I haven’t packed yet. And today’s one of the first weekend days this year when the weather’s been nice enough for me to just sit on my balcony and read with music in the background. (Remembering the many Beatlesbible posts I’ve made over the years while sitting out there with my laptop or phone…)
@vonbontee, is @Von Bontee moving with you?

Le dualisme chez Platon, les gnostiques, et les manichéens, by an obscure French female historian of religions, Simone Pétrement. (Translation: “Dualism in Plato, the Gnostics, and the Manicheans”).
I’m halfway through (up to page 150), and it’s a fascinating read; among other things, analyzing the profoundly religious/spiritual side of Plato’s philosophy, which most scholars seem to ignore.

Just finishing up “Take It Like A Man”, Boy George’s autobio.
Next in the pile is George Orwell’s 1984 I think. I’ve had it here for a long time, last read it in high school and I’ve been hearing lots more talk about it since Trump’s election and now the Broadway production that’s ongoing. So I’ll read a refresher.
I’m on Goodreads too, if you want to hit me up there and haven’t already: https://www.goodreads.com/user…..1073-polly

Reading “Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original” by Robin D. G. Kelley. (Beatles connection of note: Dr. Robert (Freyman) plays a major part!)

I finished Buster Keaton’s autobiography and am reading this now:
History of the American Cinema: An Evening’s Entertainment: The Age of the Silent Feature Picture, 1915-1928 by Richard Koszarski (1990)
The more astute (read: stalkerish) of you may have noticed that I’ve listed this book in this thread before. I read about half of it in 2015, but I could not finish it before it was due back at the library. So I checked it back out today with the intention to one day finish it.

Since this is my first post in this topic, I’ll just give a brief description of my tastes in writing.
Currently reading Morrisey’s autobiography, conveniently titled Autobiography. It’s a very interesting read, as it’s all in present tense and is more like a collection of vividly described images and memories than a set narrative.
Other than that, I’m re-reading Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice (for the umpteenth time) as well as her novel Emma.
I’m always dipping into the Harry Potter series, and The Lord Of The Rings. Poetry-wise, I enjoy Keats and other romantic poetry, and am reading Oscar Wilde’s play Vera And The Nihilists.
I finished Hunter Davies’ Beatles biography a couple of weeks ago.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I haven’t posted my readings on here in a good while, mostly because I’ve been reading little books in series that I just want to get over and done with .
I am currently reading this:
It’s very interesting, it is more concerned about the lives of some of the survivors after the night the Titanic struck the iceberg- than the actual incident itself. It deals with the lives in great detail which is fascinating. My only criticism is the author reads like he has just read a ‘How to be a good writer’ book and it’s full of flowery language when it doesn’t actually need it.
I’m well over 1/2 way through at the mo and hope to get it finished soon as I want to move on to other things.

Currently reading this for summer reading:
For once, I actually like the book that I’m reading for summer reading. Usually when I’m given a list of books to choose, usually none of them appeal to me.
The book is about a kid, Christopher, who discovered the neighbors dog dead in his neighbors yard and goes on to investigate who killed the dog.

Ah, the Curious Incident.. is a nice book, decent read. It gives good insight into the life of a kid with Asperger’s, while having a fun little mystery along the way.

Currently reading this (whilst straddling other books):
Fabulous book so far but my God the writing style does my head in after about 30 pages (for those of you who’ve never read ‘Trainspotting’ this is the first page):
I look forward to getting back to some ‘regular English’ after this.
(That, and if I read the word ‘ken’, one more time I might break something).

Went to Comicon on Sunday and got this book:
Haven’t gotten too far into the book, but it’s a good read. The book is about a 15 year old boy named Tomas who gets abandoned on an arctic planet and has to go find his father. While trying to find his father, he comes across the most powerful weapon in the universe, and has to go on a quest to prevail.

I basically just went and wandered around with my mom and brother, as it was a Sunday and there’s usually nothing better to do. But the one big reason that I went was…
I got an autograph on my Good Times CD from Micky Dolenz!!!
Oh, must’ve not mentioned that story yet…

Trainspotting finished, now onto another controversial read
Plan on reading and finishing it tonight in one gulp as it’s just over 200 pages.
Then I shall move onto some lighter reading by the lovely David Nicholls (who if you ever want a relatively light read- he’s great for. He wrote the hit 2011 book ‘One Day’ which was later made into a film with Anne Hathaway and the delightful Jim Sturgess. Although Hathaway’s Yorkshire accent is horrific.)
