You know you read a lot of Silly Girl posts when you read “Joe Boyd” as “Pink Floyd.”

Have you read MetaMaus? It’s really good. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve read Maus, and it’s fascinating to see how it all came together.

I’m reading The Longest Cocktail Party and am finding it hard to read. The style in which it is written is rather irritating particularly the author constantly referring to himself in the third person as The House Hippie when “I” would be much better. Is this really a classic?

Well researched and quite interesting so far. I’m almost halfway.

Ooh, that sounds cool! I should like to check it out. I find the bits where he depicts himself talking with his father fascinating already.

He did produce the Sound’s first single, so it’s not that far off.

The last book I read was a biography of Edgar Alan Poe –and that was last year! I find it increasingly hard to concentrate these days, though I have two very good books waiting for me (Confession of an English Opium-Eater by Thomas De Quincey, and The Samurai Film, about the Japanese classic “chambara” movies of the ’50s and ’60s) I’ve been doing a lot of online reading though. Did you know there are many online encyclopedias? Not just Wikipedia, but also Metapedia, RationalWiki, Unclyclopedia, Encyclopedia Dramatica and even a Murdepedia! Each one of them has their own agenda. I simply read about whatever I’m interested in and follow the links. For instance, one day I started to read about serial killers and ended up reading about experimentation on humans, castaways and cannibalism. Odd taste in reading, hey?!

The last thing I read was an engrossing fantasy novel called Fire, by Kristin Cashore.* It was good, and the characters were especially strong. I was pretty much unable to get anything else done until I finished it, which I did, as quickly as possible (I find it difficult to put crappy books down, let alone good ones; one of my greatest weaknesses).
I think I shall hold off starting anything new for just long enough to get through unread BB posts and clean my room.

Universe X, an alternate tale of the Marvel universe.
I’m back into comics just now; having fixed up the movies and CDs I inadvertently left at the old house I have re-acquired a few comic book favourites (including the Perez Avengers run and All Star Superman). Hopefully this is the last of the ‘catching up’ I will need to do.

Not really. I have a bit of a soft spot for Thor as it was one of his comics which got me started; I loved the ‘otherworldy’ look of Asgard back then. I also liked Dr Strange for the artwork and unusual stories.
I still seem to have a lot of Batman comics – a number of the darker ones.
