^ Whenever I see Peanut things, I always think “oohh mmm would like that”, then I put it onto my imaginary Christmas list for the Beatle Biblers- if postage wasn’t so expensive, I’d love to do a Secret Santa (wait ’til AG sees her fabulous slippers!)
Currently reading:
My first ever Binchy, it’s good so far, I’m about 150 pages in. I’m only reading it because I could have studied it last year for the Leaving Cert but my teacher didn’t do it, that and I think it’s a really crap title.

Doesn’t cost too much to post to Scotland from Ireland. Yeah there are others here but to them. I’m a mod & top poster – gimmie gimmie, gimmie.

^ 36 of my country’s postal workers are on strike and I am not kidding, the entire postal service is not working anymore. Literally, we were told on Friday, don’t send any parcels/letters a small percentage of our workers are on strike.
This country I swear
Once that’s sorted out, these are on the way to you (can you tell I like slippers?).

36 go on strike and the whole system collapses. How do they cope at lunchtimes and smoking breaks?
I have no clue, I wonder why we haven’t resorted back to carrier pigeons yet?

That’s the Passenger Pigeon, an American breed.
Funny enough I’ll probably be working at a Post Sorting Centre during Christmas. I’m doing it, first for money and second so I can see all the pretty wrapping-paper (I think I’m part-magpie, OOOOOH SHINY THINGS!)

Wait you mean I can’t open up all the birthday cards, take out the money inside and then seal it up again?
WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY TELL ME UNTIL NOW?!?!?
Ah well, I’m €500 richer than I would be so……………………………………..meh.

This month’s required reading: Moby-Dick. I am enjoying it decidedly less than I enjoyed The Scarlet Letter, in fact I’ve been avoiding it these past few days in favour of drawing John (telling myself that I have a fortnight to read the book, but John’s 75th comes only once).

Moby-Dick is meant to be a real marmite book- you either love it or you hate it but I think the majority hate it because it’s very long and not very interesting, anyhoo.

^ Not sure what to make of it, I’m 1/2 way through and it’s very iffy as to whether I like it or not, we shall see.
Annadog recommended this to me about a year ago when I was reading IT so I borrowed it from the school library. I’m only 30 pages or so in but what I’ve read has been good.
I hope to get these 2 finished by Sunday/Monday night and then onto more King for my ‘Scary October Reads’.

I read that earlier this year for extra-credit lit (I think in March). I didn’t like it much– fortunately it wasn’t a very long book…

^ I’m not sure anyone is meant to like it – more have them think a bit about human nature?
Is the film Apocalypse Now based on this?
I have the book on the shelf, I read it so long ago I can’t remember what I thought of it.

Yes, Apocalypse Now is based on Heart Of Darkness. (Funny, I’ve never seen Apocalypse Now, but I know that it’s based on Heart Of Darkness.)
I’ve read Heart Of Darkness. I thought it was really boring, but I understand it being placed in certain academic/historical contexts.

Getting myself geared up for the new Bond film so I thought I’d re-read one of the books…… From Russia with Love. I’d last read this 48 years ago.
Thoroughly enjoyed it……..Fleming writes very well. Interestingly I hadn’t realised there were so many differences from the film..The encoding machine is called a ‘spektor’ not a lecktor. The order to kill Bond comes from Smersh an official Russian assassination organisation not ‘the super criminals…..Spectre’ Lots of changes were made…….
But amazingly I hadn’t recalled that in the book the lesbian Rosa Klebb…(the name’s a pun on a Russian women’s rights saying…..’Bread and Roses’) actually kills Bond with those poisoned tipped blades in her shoes. Fleming decided to end the series with this book. Funnily enough it was thanks to JFK saying it was his favourite read and the effect that had on sales that Bond took off and the rest is history.
Reading the book through JFK’s eyes………I think he might have been sending a little message to Marilyn Monroe. If you recall the film a man pops out of her mouth………

So in fact Bond gets killed? Wow.
Believe it or not I’ve been reading Wikipedia recently, mostly articles about painters and painting. I discovered something I didn’t know about: “outsider art”. I just choose an article and start following the links and can spend three or four hours doing it.
