Just finished this fascinating historical fiction called VIII, about Henry VIII. It portrayed him as egocentric and somewhat deluded. He kept seeing this demon-boy that wasn’t real and believed he was God ‘s chosen, as prophesied in his youth. At the end, at his death, the demon-boy takes him and tells him that the ruler of the prophesy was not him, nor his son, but his second daughter Elizabeth…
I read a lot of historical fiction.

So do I, @Beatlebug! The last one I read is an all-time classic: I, Claudius, by Robert Graves. Read it if you haven’t. A book about Nero is waiting for me now, but I have a pile of about twelve books to read first…

My friend has just announced that “she loves Dan Brown”, I’m not sure what to do now- I think I may have to end the friendship
Sad to see it end this way but I don’t think the friendship can survive past that announcement

Ermagherd twinsies- I just finished that yesterday. Gave it 3/5 on Goodreads, a decent read, I liked it a lot until the, kind-of-spoiler:
Jacob meets the Peculiar Children
so obviously set up the sequel- I hate books that are just like, go buy the second one to find out what happens next, I like books that have closure and with Miss Peregrine’s I didn’t really get that feeling
I am currently reading ‘The Silver Linings Playbook’ Matthew Quick, I’m only 30 pages in but it’s reminding me A LOT of ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ just an adult version. It also spoils ‘The Scarlet Letter’ and ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ which I have on my bookshelves but haven’t read yet, so I’ll have to skip over those paragraphs . It’s a library book as well so I can’t just leave it and read TSL and TADOHF, blah!
I’m in Galway with my mam at the moment and we went to the amazing Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop (if you are ever in Galway and you are a bookworm, go there! There’s a mixture of rare, second-hand and new books and the majority of them are at least 50% cheaper than what you’d get in your average bookshop). I found a hardback copy of ‘The Beatles Anthology’ and made a stupid mistake in picking it up with my right hand from the bottom shelf of a bookcase- I don’t think my arm will ever be the same again, the bloody weight of the thing! And no I didn’t get it…unfortunately it was €20 which is a good price for it, but I was paying for it with my own money and I’m a stinge when it comes to dealing with my own money 😉
I did pick up:
Bridget Jones’ Diary & The Edge of Reason- Helen Fielding
Birdsong- Sebastian Faulks
Ghostwritten- David Mitchell
Starter for Ten & The Understudy-David Nicholls (all I need is ‘Us’ and then I have all of his books-yay!)
All for €23- not bad, when I would have paid at least €50 for them in Eason’s bookstores

Here is an announcement for anyone who bought ‘Go Set A Watchman’ by Harper Lee. This might apply to @Ron Nasty
There was a printing error on the UK edition of the book (I believe), if you bought one, check your copy to see if it is missing these lines at the bottom of these pages
p.252
“I’ve killed you, Scout. I had to.”
“Don’t you give me any more double-talk! You’re a nice,

p.272
“Feeble, hell! You’re about as feeble as a crocodile!” Jean Louise touched her mouth.

“Atticus?”
“Ma’am?”
Amazon is sending out an extra copy to everyone who bought it- with the errors amended and other bookshops are offering replacements if you have proof of purchase.

Some notable books I’ve read recently include:
- TodHunter Moon, Book One: PathFinder, by Angie Sage. A sort of spin-off of an earlier series by that author, called Septimus Heap, which was the best thing that ever happened to me (after the Beatles). All my favourite characters were even better than I remembered. 😀
- The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green. A beautiful, slightly depressing but uplifting at the same time, book.

Currently reading a biography of Elvis by Jerry Hopkins, I’ve a little under 100 pages left and I’ve learned a good few things about Elvis that I didn’t know before.
I’m also kind-of-listening to but slightly neglecting “number9dream” by David Mitchell- no I don’t need to tell you all what inspired the title and there has been quite a few Beatles and John Lennon references, Yoko also appeared at a character’s funeral which was quite fun. The narrator is obviously an English man with an RP accent which kind of annoys me as the actual narrator is meant to be Japanese but whatever.
Finally, I’m rereading ‘A Song From Dead Lips’ by William Shaw as I got the 2nd book out of the library and I needed to refresh my memory, obviously there are a lot of Beatles references in there too.

I recently finished the Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie (though I admit to the 2nd book boring me to death, the 1st and 3rd books were really good)
I also finished Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, but I’m not reading the 2nd book because I got bored of it. Next book, not sure because I’m picking out a new book later today!

‘The Russian Dreambook of Colour and Flight’ by Gina Ochsner- I can’t really describe what it’s about, it’s centred around 6 characters in a small town in Soviet Russia during the ’50’s and how the death of one man impacts their lives- it’s good so far but it’s taking me a while to get through it as I keep on picking it up and putting it down after 30 pages.

Remember when I wrote about finding ‘The Beatles’ Anthology’ for €20 and I didn’t buy it…..well I bought it and a paperback edition of ‘The John Lennon Letters’- both at a good price AND they threw in a free copy of ‘A Cellarful of Boys Noise’ by Eppy- the first American paperback edition by Pyramid Books published in 1965- I’ve never read it before so it’s exciting stuff.
Currently rereading: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling (yep I finally got on to rereading the series again).

And today I bought the oldest book in my collection, a 1936 Book Club edition of ‘Gone With The Wind’, it’s only worth $10 at most but it’s in excellent condition and it’s pretty cool to have anyways.
I am slowly turning this thread into a “what books did you buy?” thread but meh…
