Don’t be ashamed, Coldplay were actually one of the first bands that I liked. I actually prefer A Rush of Blood to the Head to Viva la Vida, tho.
Edit: Listening to “Good Day Sunshine “

Coldplay are quite popular and good!! I don't like Chris Martin voice I have to say, but a lot of my friends and nephews who like the Beatles love Coldplay so to me it's quite normal that!

I like a few of their songs, but I don't know them that well. “The Scientist” and “Viva La Vida” are my favorites. I haven't listened to their newest single “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” yet, because I find the title overly melodramatic and kind of poserish, no offense to you guys who really like them. Also it's a bit odd to me that Chris Martin is married to Gwyneth Paltrow. That just bothers me for some reason.
Right now, I'm listening to “Blinded by the Light” by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. My friend got me into this song last week, it's rather amazing.
"Now and then, though, someone does begin to grow differently. Instead of down, his feet grow up toward the sky. But we do our best to discourage awkward things like that."
"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.
"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

Well the title doesn’'t go much with the song. It sounds kind of sad and relaxing like most of their songs, I think.. but that one really cheers me up, the new album is really different to their past albums, so give it a try
PS: what does “poserish” means?
Also if you have time, listen to paradise, cute song too

Vale, “poserish” means overwrought, and like you're pretending to be something you're not.
paulrus, i didn't mean to offend you, i really don't know Coldplay that well, and the songs I've heard are quite nice.

Great track!
Me, I'm listening to…
Chi-Lites – “(For God 's Sake) Give More Power To The People “
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

And once again I’ve never heard of Von’s song. Do you ever listen to anything from, say, Centre Field, as opposed to left? As for me, I’m listening to… Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On. Maybe the best Motown song ever.
“Brother, brother, there’s too many of you dieing. Mother , Mother Mother , there’s too many of you crying” Beatiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. Thanks Marvin.

And once again I've never heard of Von's song
Coincidentally, that Chi-Lites album was one of 1971's biggest R&B hit albums, just like What's Going On ! But it's no surprise that you've never heard of it – I don't think I've ever heard it on the radio, at least not on any oldies station I've ever listened to. It's never become a real pop standard the way Motown stuff from the same era has done. (Also, I've got a theory that a lot of American r&b hits never got as much airplay up here, with the stations being forced to play Canadian content stuff instead.)

Yes, the Canadian content thing still makes no sense to me, but hey, whatever. I might look it up – if it’s old school American it sounds up my alley.
Listening to my English teacher go over Romeo and Juliet.

I love that song.
Marvin Gaye's from my city, which I'm quite proud of.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, then.
Meanwhile I'm listening to Pride and Joy by Marvin Gaye.
What a great song, fantastic bass line. I recently got a cd of rare Motown songs and there is this one song that literally has the exact same groove as Pride and Joy, except the singer is unfortunately not Marvin Gaye. I guess they figured since it worked so well once, why not try it again?
What a lot of people don't realize is that it was the same band playing all those tunes, from What's Going On to the Jackson Five's I Want You Back, the Temptations My Girl and Stevie Wonder's Signed, Sealed Delivered. That band was called the Funk Brothers and a documentary came out a few years ago called Standing in the Shadows of Motown which details how screwed they ended up getting when Barry Gordy moved Motown to Los Angeles overnight. The Funk Brothers played on more number one hits than the Beatles, Elvis, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys combined, so they have a pretty monumental place in the history of music.
Anyway, I'm listening to a ridiculously tight instrumental version of Stevie Wonder's Uptight by the aforementioned Funk Brothers.

What was the name of that bassist? James Jameson? It’s always great to see the shout out to the unknown players, the greatest instrumentalists ever. There’s one Supremes song that is just stolen by the horns. And so many of the Motown hits are elevated by the Funk Brothers. And, you can’t forget Holland-Dozier-Holland, singlehandedly the greatest songwriting trio ever.
