I finally finished sobbing my eyes out to Imagine , My Sweet Lord , and Now And Then . I can’t listen to those songs without crying anymore…

I implore you all to listen to The Lemon Twigs – this is their newest track. They are such talented musicians, who each have distinct song writing styles and a great sense of humour. (Remind you of anyone?) Clearly heavily influenced by 60s music, while also being totally original. They are up there among my absolute favourites.

This great track from Marshall Crenshaw. It reminds me of another song he wrote with Kirsty MacColl (by post) called ‘All I Ever Wanted’. She sent the song back with her own lyrics and Marshall felt he couldn’t sing them as the lyrics came from a female perspective.
Eventually, Kirsty released ‘All I Ever Wanted’ as a single from her 1991 album, ‘Electric Landlady’.

Richard, vonbonteeI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

QuarryMan, nice to see you!
I’ve been addicted for several months to Andrew Hickey’s fabulous, meticulously researched podcast detailing “A History Of Rock And Roll in 500 songs”, a series covering 1938-1999, which he is projecting to finish in about…2028? 2034? (He started the podcast in 2018, and is currently up to about song #178, in the late 1968 period. His narratives are captivating, with huge casts of characters famous and obscure, and lots of audio clips. Highly recommended…and as such, I’m currently listening to Episode #171, covering “Hey Jude ” (as well as the whole period from “Magical Mystery Tour ” through the White Album release)
(Hickey has devoted about a half-dozen episodes to the Beatles so far; here’s links for the curious)

I’m now appreciating Neil Young’s return to Spotify with my favourite song of his, Cortez the Killer. Totally ahistorical lyrics but I don’t really mind as they just sound so cool…

Yep, it’s now providing me with an opportunity to finally explore Neil’s discography in a bit more detail. I’ve never really been able to get into his music outside of the odd tune.

If I Needed Someone – MonaLisa Twins featuring Mike Massé
Some background information from the MonaLisa Twins:
Five years ago, our musician friend Mike Massé stopped by in Liverpool for his UK tour. We played a few songs together at the Epstein Theatre … remember our rendition of ‘Africa’?
Our favourite part about his visit was that we also got to film a music video together for the Beatles classic ‘If I Needed Someone ‘.
We were excited to share it on YouTube, but … turns out we did too good of a job, and the algorithm mistook us for the Fab Four themselves!
YouTube banned the video straight away, thinking we uploaded the original Beatles version. Unfortunately, there was no good way to appeal the issue, so we ended up only posting the video to Facebook at the time.
Just out of curiosity, we tried uploading the video again today. Lo and behold, it went through! It is still wrongly identified as the original Beatles song, meaning no ad revenue for us, but at least it did not get taken down this time!
So now, 5 years later, please enjoy our version of ‘If I Needed Someone ‘. 🙂
