I wonder how closely she managed the music/instrumentation, or whether she just gave vague directions to her musicians — “do some bluesy stuff here” etc.
I’ve thought about that as well! I’m assuming that she had input and suggestions and translations from Joel Nohnn and possibly the EM bandmembers, as far as the areangements go, simply because they all had a years-long understanding of rock and roll/pop music, whereas Yoko was very much a newcomer to the field.

I like to torture myself by listening to Revolution 9 on repeat.

I often listen to Revolution 9 . Sometime ago I realised that I really like it…

Drat! My favorite carol (Sleigh Ride) is the only one inexplicably unavailable on that record (perhaps the Tuber who put it up spilled egg nog on that portion of the LP…?)!
Yeah, I really like that one as well.
Currently listening to “The Lemon Song” by Led Zeppelin, in honor of John Paul Jones’s birthday today. His bassline on this song is something else – out of this world.

I’ve been known to play that one and devote most of my attention to Jonesy, how he never stops improvising new things…fabulous stuff! (As with Paul and John Entwistle, I hear the influence of Motown’s James Jamerson there.) Lotsa bass amazingness on that album, from the entirety of “Ramble On” to the super-distorted double-stops on “Heartbreaker”

Honestly I put on Zepp II every Jonesymas for that very reason. My favorite bassline of all is “What Is And What Should Never Be”, and my favorite bass tone possibly ever* is “Heartbreaker”.
Currently I’m getting round to this long-unreleased album which my friend gave me for Christmas the year before last(? 2022, anyway). The UNBELIEVABLY CURSED album cover probably deterred me for a while, but today is Bowie’s birthday so it’s a great excuse
*Save, perhaps, all of Muse’s discography

Dat Ben Jij – OG3NE
Translation of lyrics from Dutch to English:
That’s You
[Verse 1]
I wake up when your voice rustles through the trees
It is getting lighter and a new day is dawning
With your tears you flood streams
It’s the reason there are new flowers
When the wind makes the fields move slowly
And the clouds cast shadow on the ground
In the dark I meet you there dancing
You will exist around me, never too far from me
It’s the reason I can go on forever
[Chorus]
Where I go
I meet you
I see you, hear you, feel you still with me
From the waves in the sea
Up to a shell in the sand
That’s you, that’s you, that’s you
[Verse 2]
If I just don’t know what to believe anymore
I look at the blue sky from the grass
From time to time, memories come up
That let me know how it used to be
When the sunlight reflects you in the windows
I feel warmth connecting us
I hear your sweet smile when the birds are chirping
You will exist around me, never too far from me
It’s the reason I can go on forever
[Chorus]
Where I go
I meet you
I see you, hear you, feel you still with me
From the waves in the sea
Up to a shell in the sand
That’s you, that’s you, that’s you, that’s you
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
Where I go
I meet you
I see you, hear you, you still feel with me
From the waves in the sea
Up to a shell in the sand
That’s you, that’s you, that’s you, that’s you
Because where I go
I meet you
I see you, hear you, feel you still with me
From the waves in the sea
Up to a shell in the sand
That’s you, that’s you, that’s you
That’s you, that’s you, that’s you
And in the end
The love you take is equal to the love you make

Mine is more a “What are you watching right now?”
Rick Beato sitting down with Leland Sklar — easily in my top 5 favorite bassists. Hard to rank my faves, but tentatively I would say (top is best):
Paul Jackson
Leland Sklar
Peter Cetera
