I discovered this one late last night and it really is the perfect late-at-night weird synth instrumental. Rather reminiscent of something Bowie and Eno would cook up, to my mind.

Von Bontee wrote many years ago:
This is so cool @Von Bontee I see a prominent Santana entry in your ledger. I had a sweet encounter with him I’ll try to write-up in the concert thread. (Story also involves Earth, Wind and Fire of kalimba fame).
I look forward to reading about your encounter! (All your encounters in fact; I recently relayed to my uni friend, a fellow jazz and Beatals buff, your story about witnessing Sonny Rollins breaking furniture in ’72)
That Santana you noticed was an 8-track copy of 1974’s “Borboletta” album, which was found late November ’85 (around the time of Paul’s “Spies Like Us” single release in Beatletime); I was quite fond of the long instrumental “Promise of A Fisherman” in particular. Many more momentous finds recorded in that Aug-Dec ’85 time frame, were Stevie Wonder’s “Songs In The Key Of Life” a week or two later, “Highway 61” the previous August, plus Frank Zappa and The Doors and Funkadelic in between. (Even though the Columbia 8-track tape format butchered Dylan’s album – besides the usual splitting of songs between tracks, it eliminated full verses from two songs, and removed “It Takes a Train To Cry” entirely!) The Iron Maiden title listed near the bottom was “Live After Death”, a Christmas gift.
Now listening to: A “Mad Men” podcast.

Man, I give up! I typed a long post about 4 paragraphs recounting the 4 times I’ve seen Santana. Then suddenly my wifi lost connection and I lost it all. Then I came back to the forum, found this page again, and re-typed but made it about one paragraph. When I clicked “Submit Reply” it suddenly told me it didn’t go through. I thought “Huh…???” Then I scroll up top to see it had signed me out and I had to re-log in. But now I’m too pissed and tired to re-type.

Man, I hate when that happens…
When I’m typing out a post of any considerable length, I regularly and frequently pause to copy my words to the clipboard, just to avoid those very annoyances.

This is what I’m listening to right now, my first time. As a huge Bowie & Eno fan, I agree on that.

I’m listening to the Fab Four’s version of I Got To Find My Baby, which they did for the BBC Radio show called Saturday Club.
I often forget that one exists! It’s not one of Chuck’s most memorable songs, lyrics-wise…

I love your profile picture! Heathen is one of my FAVORITE Bowie albums. Probably in my top three along with Station to Station and either Low or “Heroes”, depending on the day(??? although I must confess, without a huge amount of pride, that I have been reaching for Let’s Dance shockingly often lately).
I’m currently listening to “Late Night” by Syd Barrett, since he passed away 17 years ago today. I do have some Ringo queued up next though.

Thanks, I was worried about putting a non-Beatles avatar! I have to confess to loving their 90s collab, Outside: 1, but yeah the Berlin Trilogy is up there.

“Save and save often” is a timeless adage, even in modern cloud-saving days. Once I write a great sentence/paragraph, I “Select All -> Copy -> Paste” (keyboard shortcuts: crtl+A, crtl+C, crtl+X) so it’s stored in the clipboard. For added safety, paste into a saved document.

Made mention of these LA first-wave hardcore punks on another thread a coupla days ago (namely the factoid about lead singer Darby Crash dying of heroin overdose on 7 December, 1980); and soon enough had to play their album for old time’s sake. And now doing so again. 1979’s GI, their first and last album, produced by Joan Jett (before her superstar status); guitarist Pat Smear later joined Nirvana.

The Rain Song
I grew up on a cassette version of HOTH (an Xmas ’83 gift, alongside the debut) with the tracks resequenced to minimize tape; “Rain Song” was moved to the second track of side two, and I kinda prefer it there. Probably if I’d heard it properly at the time I’d feel differently…
The last time I played “Rain Song” was a year ago or more, I was listening closely, and something about Bonham’s drumming during the long instrumental break began to remind me a lot of what Ringo did on “A Day In The Life “…next time I hear it I’ll listen again for what I heard.
Now playing: The best album of Billy Idol’s career:
