This I remember was one of the “later” albums that, on one listen through, reinforced my opinion that he had lost the mojo he had through the 60s to the end of the 70s. I may well re-listen to see if I’ve changed my mind. (I vaguely recall about 10 years ago listening at least to one song, Little Willow, and liking it.)
Now today I find, you have changed your mind

Nice bunch of performances from those ladies, but it’s musically kinda toothless. I’ve just never heard any version that simply rocks as hard as Joni’s original, even though it’s just her vigorous acoustic strumming and some ornamental percussion, plus the overdubbed backup vocals of the “Saska-toons”

Yes, I agree. Joni’s original version is my favourite.

One of only two times I can think of when Bobby authorised the use of a sample from one of his recordings. He liked the song so much that he didn’t charge for the sample, though he does have a co-writer credit for the chord progression and vocal sample. Totally deserved though, as you can hear Dylan’s original melody is the spine of this. And he could have gone for both songwriting and record royalties.

I know The Beastie Boys sampled the entire final lyric from “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” on some long-forgotten track from their “Check Your Head” LP (and they shared a joint with Bob at a party once, too)

Find myself on a real ’70s punk-rock (and Beatles) jag these days, for the past couple of months, after being on a soul-r&b (and Beatles, always Beatles) kick for much of the latter half of ’22. Now onto the debut from Australia’s The Saints

The Pogues – Thousands Are Sailing
That album was released just a few weeks after the Detroit concert I saw, with special guest Joe Strummer on acoustic guitar and background vocals (plus he got a lead on an acoustic “London Calling”). Shane MacGowan was already drunk and still drinking at the bar before the show, and had a bottle in hand through much of the actual show; he kept his sunglasses on and was wobbly when not grabbing the mic stand for support, but he never fell down once!
