My own vinyl is at least 20 years gone, sold, so I had to stream it myself as well. The DKs were quite important to me aged 19-20; D.H.’s superhuman beats throughout side one, along with coffee, got me up and moving most mornings during summer ’87, to my between-semesters job with the provincial government.

I’ve still got my original UK vinyl pressings of Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables and Plastic Surgery Disasters (bought in ’81 & ’82 respectively) along with white labels of Frankenchrist and Bedtime for Democracy (’85 & ’86).

Wow, young age to get into American hardcore punk! But then the UK charts were more progressive than on this side, obviously…

Me, I owned the entire LP discography (minus the EP) by the time of “Convenience or Death”; three new and two used. All that’s left is a used “Fresh Fruit” on Cherry Red, with no insert; and then-new “Frankenchrist” (Fringe/Alternative Tentacles, Canada), with Giger poster. blue-meanie (And unsealed shrink wrap with sticker warning)

My older sister, Dawn, was a part of the Bromley Contingent, one of the early renowned groups of UK punk fans. Among her friends were John Beverly (Sid Vicious), William Broad (Billy Idol) and Susan Dallion (Siouxsie Sioux). My first gig was being dragged by Dawn to see the Pistols at the 100 Club when I was 9 because it was the holidays and she had charge of me.

I got my punk introduction early on in life. An older sister was a great education.

Currently listening through to the new Revolver  once again.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-6!

Incredible, nine years old, seeing the Pistols, meeting Siouxsie etc al…wow just wow!

My flabbergasted introduction to punk *music* (my info limited to having seen a few safety-pinned UK youths on a CBC news feature, and having heard the term “punk rock” thrown around throughout the year, vaguely guessing it referred to weird-costumed bands like KISS), was on December 31 ’77, when a babysitting older cousin solicitously introduced us to “Rocket To Russia” – coincidentally, the night of the Ramones’ famous “It’s Alive” show. Instant fanship!

Now streaming classic r&b/soul channel; will update when Beatles cover pops up….

No Beatles covers yet, so I’ll post these two recent Beatlish ones: “Ball Of Confusion” famously reminds us that “…the Beatles’ new record’s a gas!”; while Billy’s fine hit may have been inspired lyrically by George’s “Circles” and “Only A Northern Song “, who knows? Plus Billy was an actual Beatle for a week, of course, just ask John:

I’ve been listening to Steven Wilson’s solo albums in honor of his birthday today. Right now I’m listening to “Nowhere Now” from his 2017 album To The Bone, which I am rather fond of since I listened to it when it came out so there’s a nostalgia factor here a-hard-days-night-ringo-10

Huh, never thought it’d take five days; this channel plays Wilson Pickett’s “Hey Jude ” and Stevie Wonder’s “We Can Work It Out ” regularly. The one they played just now is new to me: James Brown taking on “Something

1988 was the year I saw Bob Dylan, myself, just briefly – glimpsed for a second through his tour bus window, pulling away after an outdoor concert at Toronto’s CNE Stadium. (I’d lingered outside the fencing around the concert grounds for awhile, listening, trying unsuccessfully to find a way to see through the barriers)est

Still in the mood for mostly streaming classic soul music listening these days…here’s another Beatles cover (ten minutes and two songs ago)

My hot take is that after the Beatles split they went down the paths of spiritualism, solipsism, alcoholism, and Paul McCartney

Was just listening to this one in honor of its release on this day in 1968.

Now I’m playing With The Beatles , in honor it its release anniversary on this day in 1963, from both my computer and YouTube Music at the same time so that last.fm will scrobble it (thru YT) but so I don’t have to deal with the absolutely s**t stereo mix that is all that is available on streaming services – it’s less s**t when I’m also listening to the mono mix at the same time. Kinda gives it a nice reverb a-hard-days-night-john-6 the only problem is YT progresses to the next track faster than Apple Music so it gets out of sync & I have to adjust after every song a-hard-days-night-paul-10ahdn_paul_01
