VCD, speaking as a middle aged Southern Northern Ontarian who went through quite his own Krautrock (and roll!)-phase two decades ago, have you ever heard the 1974/75 recordings by Hamilton’s own Simply Saucer?
Recorded partly in the basement studio of (recently deceased, sadly) engineer Bob Lanois, partly on the rooftop (!) of the Jackson Square mall, and it sounds as much like the early Velvets or Syd’s Floyd as any of the German bands (or Hawkwind, or Sun Ra’s electronics). Very cool!
I’ve added it to my library, will give it a listen! Right now, though, in honor of its release on this day in 1968:
Pink Floyd – A Saucerful of Secrets
BB, the band actually had that particular Floyd album in mind when choosing their name! And the instrumental “Mole Machine” in particular reminds me of their heroes…except they didn’t have “proper” Rick Wright-style keys, just electronic effects generators.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Tenacious D’s cover of You Never Give Me Your Money /The End , released yesterday, with profits from physical sales going to Doctors Without Borders.
Paul said this on social media:
This Tenacious D cover of our song is fantastic! It’s so imaginative and so well performed. What a great tribute to the original. Guys – I love it. Check it out!
So I did. A couple of lyric changes. I love it too!

Currently listening to the whole Making Mirrors album by Gotye, since I was curious what his other music sounded like besides that one song (y’all know the one). Currently on “In Your Light”, and definitely enjoying the elements of homage to so many prior eras and genres.
"And life flows on within you and without you"
"I guess I just wasn't made for these times"

RubeI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Currently Spotify-skimming through the documentary/evolution tracks on the super deluxe Lennon POB…such a joy just hearing John’s speaking voice (and Ringo and Yoko piping in occasionally too!)
