Ok weird… I thought he wrote “locusts” to commemorate his getting the honorary degree from Princeton, but that ceremony didn’t happen until a week later.

Most likely it’s been assigned to the wrong session. The majority of sessionography’s assign it’s earliest recordings to the 12 August session. Seems unlikely there was a version 9 days before the ceremony, but it was how it was listed on the sleeve. I’ve also noticed the Harrison session is missing their version of Don’t Think Twice, and a 2nd “take 2” of If Not for You from the 1 May with Harrison as the “take 2” on this set differs from the version included on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 Main thing is it’s an upgrade in audio, and gives us some great unheard tracks that haven’t previously been booted.

All Those Years Ago came on in the car on my way home, from a random daily mix Spotify playlist, but today of all days!

Then listened to John Lennon /Plastic Ono Band while I cooked and ate dinner. a-hard-days-night-john-1

I’m kicking out the jams pre-WW2 style. Some some pretty high tempos – too fast for even some 1938 hipsters to dance to, I’ll bet. I wonder if they work some things up just for the Carnegie Hall Show that they knew people wouldn’t be dancing to anyways… anyways, cool album!

I hereby dedicate Together Forever to @Magill. Glad to hear you got your internet access sorted out. Hey, something I was thinking about yesterday. If your Ask Magill thread had continued, my first question would have been “If you were to choose one person who was most responsible for the success of The Beatles, who would it be?”. Now enjoy!!

Been listening to a lot of Beach Boys , particularly the Today! and Surf’s Up albums. That stretch on the former album from ‘Please Let Me Wonder’ to ‘She Knows Me Too Well’ is as good as just about anything on Pet Sounds, in my opinion, except maybe ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ and ‘God Only Knows’.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Hey @Little Piggy Dragonguy, have you see this (looks like I’ll be staying up late tonight)…

Taylor Swift announces new album ‘evermore’ dropping tonight. Yes, another one!

Taylor Swift announces new album ‘evermore’ dropping tonight. Yes, another one!

Taylor Swift is good to us. She really is.

The Grammy-winning singer announced on Thursday she’s releasing her ninth studio album, evermore at midnight ET on Thursday night.

The new album, Swift wrote on Twitter, is the sister album to her eighth album folklore — which was also announced as a surprise album in July 2020, at a time when many of needed it most.

The album release coincides with Swift’s 31st birthday on Dec. 13.

The tracklist features some extremely exciting collaborations, including “no body, no crime” featuring Haim, “evermore” featuring Bon Iver, and “coney island” featuring The National. Plenty there to be pretty darn elated about, frankly.

In an Instagram post, Swift explained where she got the energy to produce another album this year. “To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” she wrote. “To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music.”

She added that she created the songs for evermore with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon, who also collaborated on folklore.

The music video for “willow” drops at midnight ET along with the album, so get ready.

As ever, Swift blesses us with an album when we truly need it.

@sigh butterfly I did see that, and probably won’t be sleeping tonight haha. I absolutely love Folklore so I’m really excited about this. I’m also grateful that she has only announced these two albums the same day they’ve been released. It’s very considerate of her as I hate waiting for albums to come out.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 I got lucky, it came on at 9:00 PM here. It’s 10:30 and we’re on our second listen (I already have some faves). Watching the YouTube view counter go from 1 to 500,000 in 15 minutes was a thrill, just joining with people all over the world. Made me miss the old days when I’d wait in line (with a bunch of fans) outside the record store to buy the new Beatle album.

For my money Today! is the better album. Kiss Me Baby is Brian’s best melody, and the mix of early style fun in the sun with Brians contemplative solemn pieces with good cover selections makes for my most repeated album of any artist. Surfs Up has been my least favorite of the late 60s/early 70s output, especially once you know the story of how they had to pry the title track out of Brian’s reluctant hands since they couldn’t remember how it went.

Great list @Magill, those are some of my favorites as well. You don’t hear Cream mentioned to often anymore. There was a time in my life when I heard Disraeli Gears every day. I’m from the bay area, so Metallica are our hometown guys. My wife is a SF Symphony subscriber and last year she got free tickets to the S&M2 show. We weren’t this close to the stage, but the video gives you a flavor of what it was like and nothing else matters a-hard-days-night-john-3.

Have been a fan of Harry Nilsson for a while, but currently on an Aerial Ballet kick and it is a fantastic album. This might have been quite well known, but I’ve only just discovered that he was the original songwriter of Daddy’s Song (made famous by The Monkees) and One (made famous by Three Dog Night). He was an absolute genius.

Enjoy this live version of Mr Richland’s Favourite Song – which was likely influenced by The Beatles and references the Walrus.

Clarence “Tom” Ashley and Gwen Foster and, from 1933, the oldest existing recording of a song that became a classic.

It dates back even further, with Ashley saying he grandfather taught him the song.

Harry also wrote this Monkees classic, @kelicopter:
