Lovely traditional Irish song performed here by Johnny Cash
And if there’s gonna be a life here after,
And faith somehow I’m sure there’s gonna be,
I will ask my God to let me make my Heaven,
In that dear land across the Irish sea.

Also, I’ve been listening to ‘Jerusalem’ a lot. If England gets a national anthem at some point, it should be ‘Jerusalem’. ‘God Save The Queen’ sucks, a national anthem should be about celebrating the country itself, not just the head of state.

@QuarryMan
I would have the same problem as I have with God Save the Queen/King (as it will be next), in that it portrays some God -given right of supremacy when I think God is a nice fairytale for children.
I’m with Billy Connolly when it comes to the National Anthem…
…or maybe just go with All You Need Is Love . It served well enough in ’67.

Hmmm, perhaps, but I think it’s probably inescapable that any national anthem we would end up picking would have religious elements, may as well pick the best of the bunch.
‘Jerusalem’ also reminds me of a funny story from a big extended family wedding when I was younger. The girls were all bridesmaids and the boys all dressed in those red coats soldiers used to wear as page boys and had plastic swords. Anyways, one of my cousins, who was about six, fell asleep during the ceremony during the song, holding his plastic sword just as we all sang “Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand”…

Double post, but I thought I should mention that I’m loving Taylor Swift’s ‘State of Grace’ at the moment. What a song.

Me, I think the Sex Pistols gave England its definitive anthem in 1977.
I’m listening to this very cool collection by Mickey and Sylvia, famous for “Love is Strange”…
(…the Wings cover of which inexplicably left out the famous flirty-dialogue bit…too bad, it woulda been really cute, perfect for both the paulandlinda-loveydoveyness of it (imagine“Oh, Linda?” Yes, Paul?” “How do you call your lover boy??” ), and also for Linda’s limited vocal abilties. Opportunity missed, Paulie! )

Great, I talk up Taylor all the time. My brothers don’t see it and think I’ve been overly influenced by 30 years of raising daughters (and hanging out with all their childhood, high school and college girlfriends). Right now I’m wrapped up in Exile…You’re not my homeland anymore, So I’m leaving out the side door.

I’m listening to Christmas music because who even cares this year.
I DO
In my opinion it’s even more reason to care and hold it sacred in our hearts, because without the external traditions, that is the only place we can keep Thanksgiving
…or something idk it’s my favorite holiday so I feel very strongly about this
also I’m hungry for STUFFING and PIE
Anyway currently listening to this fine album, which turns 18 today:

But I’m British! The clocks have gone back, we’ve had Halloween (and also bonfire night / Guy Fawkes in early November), we’re in a second lockdown. There is nothing else to look forward to! I say we bust out the advent calendars and crank up The Pogues.

OH! I’m sorry @kelicopter, I thought you were American for some reason… brain fart but now that I rub more than 2 of my brain cells together I recall that you are in fact British. Yes, y’all don’t have Thanksgiving and so y’all get a pass…
Currently listening to this:
brings back memories, it was actually the first version of “I’ve Just Seen A Face ” I ever heard. Works very well as a bluegrass song.

Thanks Walt, I enjoyed that.
It is a beautiful interview. I get very emotional watching it. Same thing with Lennon interviews near the end of his life.

Nice job on the mandolin, BB! You really seem anxious and able to tackle everything – can’t wait until you add the dulcimer and banjo for the full “Zep III” palette
ehehehehe I thought about taking up hammer dulcimer once but it wasn’t really that fun as a tactile experience, but I’m sure I could fake Appalachian dulcimer pretty handily if I had to, it’s not a very complicated instrument banjo I kind of don’t like the sound of enough to play it, but it’s also not that complicated/different from guitar so I imagine I could also fake it handily enough with a bit of practice if I needed to. (Here we illustrate the difference between a proper instrument player or an instrumentist, and someone who can play an instrument if needed. My mandolin skills fall into the latter. )
Is there dulcimer on Zepp III, though? I know Jonesy is a jack of all instruments but I don’t remember hearing it.
