Thanks for the reminder @Beatlebug , I remember this day well. Funny that what stands out in my memory of the first listen is the abrupt ending of I Want You (She’s So Heavy). I was at a party with a very loud stereo and we all thought at first that our album was defective. The End totally went over my head and I didn’t hear it as the Beatles saying goodbye until many years later.

My dad put George Winston’s Autumn on and now I’m crying for nostalgia (or maybe it’s the onions lol) I haven’t heard it since a lifetime ago… since a year that wasn’t 2020…

My Fleetwood Mac kick is still going strong, currently on heavy rotation are ‘I Know I’m Not Wrong’ from Tusk, ‘Bleed to Love Her’ from Say You Will and the obscenely beautiful ‘Gypsy’ from Mirage, one of those songs that is so stunning it makes you feel like every other artist might as well not even bother. The guitar solo at the end tops it off so perfectly, too.

We are in the middle of a 5 day heatwave, but after that I’ll be stepping into Autumn (luv that word). Something happened to me the other day that restored my optimistic outlook. After 29 days of smoky skies the sum finally shone again and the sky returned to a lovely blue. For a few hours I forgot all about and now I find myself myself making plans again.
This is a picture of the noontime sun taken in my backyard in the middle of the bad air event.

Two bits of video trivia: the guy sitting on the left of the stoop is Peter Tosh, one of the original Wailers with Bob Marley and Bunny Livingston; the apartment building is 96-98 St. Mark’s Place in Manhattan, the same building used on the cover of Led Zeppelin’s 1975 album Physical Graffiti.

The great man himself did a great interview with Anthony Fantano recently, he does ramble a bit, but I think he’s still got it.

WooHoo @WeepingAtlasCedars, we’ve got another song to enjoy.
Ahead of the release of Tom Petty’s Wildflowers & All the Rest, the singer’s estate has shared the new video for “Leave Virginia Alone,” the first single off the long-awaited reissue. “Leave Virginia Alone” — one of the five previously unreleased tracks on the All the Rest half of the reissue — is also among the earliest songs in the collection. Petty wrote it in January 1993, nearly two years before Wildflowers’ November 1994 release.

Oooh! Yay!
I’m quite liking this one (well, I’m liking all of the stuff that’s been released so far, but still); it’s got an interesting story to it. Also, from looking it up, apparently Rod Stewart recorded and released a version back in 1995:
It’s ok, I suppose, but I think Tom’s version is definitely much better. Then again, I’m kind of doubly biased, generally being not so keen on Stewart myself.
Remembering Tom slightly late on the third anniversary of that horrible day, I’m currently listening to a very poignant favourite:
Never fails to make me cry. I love Tom Petty.

Been a while since my Brand New phase, but I’ve been revisiting this one quite a bit lately. It’s somewhat hard to listen to now that I know what a terrible person Jesse Lacey is (and boy did some of their lyrics age badly) but it’s a very hard hitting song nonetheless.

Thanks Beatlebug, 1970 was quite a year for rock music. I am pretty sure I have only listened to this album after midnight. If the Led Zep thread was still open I’d write a review…
You mean the Pink Floyd thread?

I know @Beatlebug, I just have the most affection for the Zepplin thread so I think all English bands have (had) a home there. I still think your ranking of the last song on each LP could be the basis of a cool book.
