The Stones recording Sympathy for the Devil…
…says something for the times that when they started on the song Jagger was singing, “I shouted out, ‘Who killed Kennedy?'” and by the end of the sessions he was singing, “Who killed the Kennedys?” with the assassination of Robert having happened during the sessions.

Hello sigh butterfly!
WILDFLOWERS? BOX SET?! I don’t know how I didn’t hear about this until just now; I’m signed up to receive emails from the TPATH website but never got anything about it for some reason. I did, however, hear about some kind of Wildflowers project in the works a couple months ago or so, hoping that it would be a some kind of box set. Now that appears to be the case!! I hope it’s every bit as fantastic as I’ve dreamed it to be!
I just watched it for the first time, and what a sweet video. That song always makes me emotional as it is, and seeing footage of Tom smiling in the sunshine along with it certainly didn’t help with that at all. I’ll admit that I did get a bit teary-eyed.
I love how these home recordings they’ve been releasing give a glimpse at early versions of the songs, with bits of other songs from the album in them. I find it fascinating to hear my favourite lyrics from “Crawling Back To You” in the home recording of “You Don’t Know How It Feels” that they put out a little while back (I’m So Tired of being tired / Sure as night will follow day / Most things that I worry ’bout never happen anyway”), and I also noticed that this home recording of “Wildflowers” features most of the chorus melody of “To Find A Friend” at about 1:27. Little details like these make it all so great to listen to, and I very much hope that there’ll be more of them in the rest of the set!
But yes, thanks much for bringing that to my attention! Prompted by your post, I am now listening to:

I had the same reaction to seeing Tom. I still kind of expect to hear that his latest album is being released any day now. Wow, I missed the To Find A friend reference. I think I must have been too focused on watching the video. The box looks pretty massive (70 tracks), so better start saving up them pennies.

Wow! That’s a big set!
I looked it up, and that appears to be the biggest set available (for the vinyl versions, anyway). The bag is super cute, and I love the idea of having a little necklace, however upon looking at the price my heart broke a little bit. Five hundred dollars is already way out of my price range, but assuming that’s in American dollars, I’d be paying closer to seven hundred, and that wouldn’t even include shipping or anything. Not only that, but it appears to be sold out anyways…
I think I’ll likely go for the 5 CD set instead, which is still kind of a lot of money, but several hundred dollars cheaper and it includes all the material (which is what I’d like to have). Maybe in lieu of the goodies in the other set, I’ll get myself this cute mug and a shirt or something.
Sticking to the actual thread topic (whoops), I am currently listening to:

I like hearing John spending five minutes trying to tune that damn weird mutant guitar while the others vamp and vamp…He really liked that song! – running through the prospective set list and he mentions “George’s song: [sings] ‘love you girl, you’re as sweet as pie…” without any sarcasm af all that I can tell …Maybe there should be a full release of EVERY January 1969 take…devote a full CD to “For You Blue ” and “Bathroom Window” and “Get Back ” and etc….

Back on my The Fall discography exploration, giving a full listen to 1985’s This Nation’s Saving Grace. I think it’s probably the best of their albums I’ve heard so far – Live at the Witch Trials is perhaps slightly too primitive, Hex Enduction Hour pretty great but not wholly consistent, and The Wonderful and Frightening World Of… just not really doing much for me at all.
TNSG, on the other hand, perfects the balance of post-punk intensity and quirky experimentalism, as exemplified on a song like ‘Barmy’: the choruses bash along indiscriminately, contrasting nicely with moments in which the band slow it down and get a bit weirder. The album all has the uncharacteristically upbeat and cheery ‘Paintwork’, the electronics-infused ‘LA’, the repeated theme of the intro and outro, and the almost country-ish ‘What You Need’. Highlights for me are ‘Bombast’, ‘Barmy’, ‘Spoilt Victorian Child’ and ‘Paintwork’.
And sometimes they say ‘Hey Mark! Hey Mark! You’re spoiling all the paintwork’…
(And just listen to that freaking bass on ‘Bombast’!)

Von BonteeI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,

He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Yeah, the double-drumkit thing really gave the Hex era lineup a lot of power to their playing. ‘The Classical’ has to be one of the best album openers ever, so much energy and physicality.

Sierra Hull – Weighted Mind (2016)
I recently developed a taste for Interesting Bluegrass and I’m in love with this woman so I decided I need to actually listen to her albums instead of just binge-watching random videos of her at odd hours of the night (the best YouTube rabbit-holes are always fallen down after 10 PM).
