The Elected – Sun, Sun, Sun
A nice folk-rock album, with lots of pleasant, rustic instrumentals and folky goodness.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Have had that CSN&Y album saved as a playlist for months now and still haven’t gotten round to it. Thanks for the reminder!

Frickin’ insane guitar solo.
Anyway, currently listening to Timcast IRL because my brain is too sleepy to make decisions about what music to listen to. I might play Bowie’s Black Tie White Noise (1993); I have a craving for some Bowie impressionistic saxophone paintings.

Love that “Complete IASW Sessions” box so much. My one tiny complaint about the original LP is that Tony Williams is so restrained.
Now playing

Yeah, “Gurls” is probably their most perfect pop song, definitely should’ve (and could’ve) been a hit. Honestly though, I don’t much love the albums; Alex Chilton’s melodies just don’t grab me half the time.

I think Radio City is my least favourite of the three, the highlights are there but a few of the tracks really drag. I enjoy #1 Record all the way through, though – there’s a lot to enjoy there in terms of power pop goodness, particularly ‘When My Baby’s Beside Me’ and ‘In The Street’ (which some Forumpudlians might recognise as the theme song from That 70s Show in a Cheap Trick cover).
Then there’s Third which is a different beast altogether, like it’s trying to be an upbeat folk-pop album but is too drunk and depressed to do it properly, and so ends up being a very disjointed but emotionally satisfying collage of sounds. I only listened to it for the second time tonight, but I think it’s going to end up becoming one of my favourites.

Agree, I prefer the first LP, with Jody Stephens input. And I know I could mix the best of the first two LPs into one super-enjoyable longplayer. Still haven’t heard the third LP, or Jody’s solo album.
