This is a CD length playlist I made awhile back spotlighting, well, Fusion. Take a listen. This was essentially Jazz in the 70’s.

Yeah, several favourites of my own in that playlist, and “Voodoo” (highlight of BB) sounds really nice among those very different 70s-style fusion things. I was playing the George Martin-produced “Blow by Blow” just three nights ago; it was where I first heard “She’s A Woman ” back in 1986 – I only had the cassette, with no writers credited, and didn’t realize it was a Beatles tune until I borrowed “Beatles 65” from the library many weeks later…
Anyways, I’m listening to Richard Penniman and probably will be doing so all day long.

@Jules will be pleased to know that I’ve been working my way through Mingus’ discography over the last couple of days, some of which I’d already heard, some of which I hadn’t. Yesterday was Ah Um and The Clown (geez, that cover is creepy) and today it has been Blues & Roots, Mingus Dynasty and currently, Tijuana Moods. I’ve enjoyed them all – his work is generally pretty distinctive and I rarely find it dull.

Probably my favourite jazz discography, I love how ANGRY HE SOUNDS
I also love his sense of humour. There are long titles in some of his albums that crack me up such as “All the Things You Could Be by Now If Sigmund Freud’s Wife Was Your Mother ” (which basically means “noting” LOL what a mind). Or “The Shoes of the Fisherman’s Wife Are Some Jiveass Slippers” (this one is one of my favourite compositions by him, I really love it. I won’t even try to guess what that title means…)

Also funny: the lyric version of “Fables of Faubus”. And the bit in the “Mingus at Antibes” version of “What Love” where he audibly tells some rude French heckler “you can go f**k y’self!” when he interrupts Eric Dolphy’s bass clarinet solo.
Listening to Donna Summer’s “Love To Love You Baby” LP.

Was:
The Final Cut — Pink Floyd (1983)
We’re now fully in the 80s and it’s the last Floyd album with Roger Waters, with no Richard Wright. It’s very very very Waters-y– Gilmour’s still in the band but it seems is contribution was pushed aside. No wonder people consider this to be just basically a Roger Water’s solo album under the Floyd name.
Now:
A Momentary Lapse of Reason — Pink Floyd (1987)
Rog is gone, Rich is back and David made this non-concept Floyd album with input from outside songwriters. The lyrics may not be as cutting as Roger’s, but at least Gilmour’s guitar and the production shines through.

I like Momentary Lapse of Reason a lot. An absolutely badass album that I love to blast loud while driving. Pink Floyd is good at taking steps forward instead of just trying to copy what the guy who leaves the band used to do.
