I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

For the last few Sunday mornings i’ve played songs from my digital library (almost most of which came from CDs) at random and share videos from YouTube on the link below. Peruse if you like.

[The Beatles – “Real Love “]I’m not crying….. there are just overwhelming amounts of emotions in my eyes
Haha that’s the best “I’m not crying” excuse I’ve heard in a while.
Also WYWH is probably my favorite as well, though I could make a case for Dark Side (basic though that would be, I don’t care) and Atom Heart Mother has a special place in my heart. Oh, and also Meddle. Errr help
…anyway, I’m getting my HarriSunday on with his eponymous album.

I’ve never put much thought into what my favorite Floyd album is, but if I had to choose I think this would be it :Wish You Were Here — Pink Floyd (1975)
The first time I heard it it was my favourite too but with time it has gone from first to fifth. As awesome as Shine On You Crazy Diamond is, I now believe there’s too much fat in the middle
Maybe someday we can discuss it more thoroughly.

Have A Cigar is the most badass rock song i’ve ever heard. Phenomal album my favorite from Pink Floyd. @Jules where exactly is the filler? The synth runs of welcome to the machine? ok. So it goes
ultimate mega-suite- (filler)? – blazing rock banger – classic rock anthem – ultimate mega suite

Welcome to the Machine is not just tiny filler. That thing is 7 minutes long and boring af. Sounds like an uninteresting piece of the Tron soundtrack. Have a Cigar, I’m not a big fan either. I liked it at first but now I’ve listen to the album a couple of times that song overstates its welcome as well, it is 5 minutes long and it is kind of difficult to get through it, after two minutes it just stops being interesting (and it feels kind of a cliché Pink Floyd type song, it is not that original…)
I’m not fond of Part IX being the finale either, it’s fitting but not a very pleasant composition, that is also overlong. Everything else on the album goes from great to fantastic. Solid 8/10, maybe a 9/10 if I’m in a very good mood. I’d go 1) Dark Side of the Moon 2) Animals 3) The Wall 4) Meddle 5) Wish You Were Here.

All great albums in that top five. Definitely not an insult to any album to be ranked below those. I’m a huge fan of Piper as well as Momentary Lapse of Reason, and Piper is probably 2nd or 3rd, but their 70s output is so great its difficult to rank one above the other

My picks outside of the 70s would be Saucerful and Division Bell but honestly that 70s five streak record progression is unparalleled and far away and beyond better than the rest of their catalogue (assuming Obscured by Clouds didn’t happen).

Its all so good. I hear that golden age as a perfect collaboration of minds to create the best album possible. Syd’s music sounds like an outpouring of creativity and he conveys such a unique understanding of music through his songs, it makes for such a great listen because it cannot be found anywhere else. No imitators have successfully sounded anywhere close to as interesting as Syd. His approach to songwriting was that unique and effortless.

Has been in my head all day (A Heart Full of Love not In My Life ). Michael Ball was far too old to be reprising Marius in this (he’s 33, Marius should be played by a lad fresh out of drama school) but his voice is so beautiful, I’ll allow it.

Such discussion has really made me want to go on a Floyd discography binge because I haven’t done one in a while– also this way I can make a proper personal ranking because I’m a giant nerd and I think that such an activity would be fun
So right now I’m currently listening to:
Piper at the Gates of Dawn — Pink Floyd (1967)

Just gave Kanye’s Yeezus a full listen for the second or third time ever and it absolutely blew me away. I’ve always counted ‘Blood on the Leaves’ and ‘Black Skinhead’ as two of his best songs but really there are just so many elements to the album that are truly-next level, like the outro to ‘New Slaves’ or the very beginning of the album on ‘On Sight’ with that glitchy electronic beat that just makes you go ”what the f*ck was that?”. I think Kids See Ghosts remains my favourite of his albums, but Yeezus has definitely risen in my estimation.

Michael Ball is one of the best singers I’ve ever heard. My favorite Marius.
Ball is up there, however I am very fond of Adam Jacobs and Rob Houchen (who got his turn at the ‘All Star Concert’, so he’s now immortalised as Marius).

@Jules @lovelyritametermaid Wish You Were Here is perfect and I don’t care what anybody says. I have an especial love that mellow pastoral mood the Floyd were in from about ’69-’73 which includes Obscured By Clouds, it fits in perfectly with that vibe and also has some cool rockers like “The Gold It’s In The?” and “Childhood’s End”. I think it’s good because it’s so unpretentious and imperfect.
I did my Floyd Friday but I didn’t get to OBC and now I want to, but I’m busy listening to “Little Lamb Dragonfly” on repeat because I remembered that it exists again. These things happen
