Glad you feel the same way about Tame Impala as me, @Jules . I normally try not to be too negative about artists I don’t like since I often end up digging them later, but I literally cannot fathom what makes them so popular. I’ve listened to Lonerism like, multiple times at this point, and it has never done anything for me.

The best thing about Tame Impala is Currents‘ cover art. To me Currents is one of the best album covers ever made. The album itself does not make it justice tho. Btw, is there any cover art thread?

Not that I know of. You can probably discuss covers in one of these general musical discussion threads.
After inspiring myself in the ‘I Saw Her Standing There ‘ thread, I’m listening to a Hendrix playlist I just created. ‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky…

I went through a very heavy “Let It Happen” phase several months ago and believe you me, I would listen to the song and get l o s t in the cover art.
Anyway, I’m currently listening to All Things Must Pass because it’s HarriSunday.

yeah, I get that– it’s like with movies, I can never watch rewatch the same movie again within the same week. But also there was that one week where I only listened to Revolver ….and then those two weeks where I only listened to Rubber Soul …

Or you listen to the White Album on repeat for 5 straight weeks. It swings in both directions. When I first got into All Things Must Pass I didn’t listen to anything else for a long while.

Agree… except when I was on that Fistful of Mercy kick and listened to their album for three days straight…
but generally, when I’m not actively obsessed with an album, it’s all I can do to remember to listen to it every Now And Then …
Right now Mother is in my head for some reason, and I’m suffering decision paralysis about what to listen to instead so it’s just LOOPING there.

How do you guys normally get into albums? I find for me that if I’ve already discovered one of the songs on my own and had it on a playlist for a while, I then begin to check out some of the other songs based on what Spotify tells me are the most popular. If I like what I hear then I give the album a full listen. For example, I had been listening to the title track from Fleet Foxes’ Helplessness Blues for a while before beginning to dive into the rest of the album, and now the whole thing is a front-to-back favourite of mine.
That isn’t how it always goes, though; if I’m recommended an album that I’ve never heard anything from before I’ll typically just go ahead and listen all the way through.
Anyways, back on topic, from the album you inevitably discover after Nevermind, the closing song which will inevitably leave you all like “Nirvana who?”

Usually it’s through a concerted effort to get into the artist by listening to their discography from front to back but otherwise it’ll be one or two songs I get obsessed with and that leads me to seek out more.
Currently listening to Muse – The Resistance (2009), which reminds me that it really need to re-read 1984, upon which it was based.

One of my best friends (the only guy I know who could enjoy alternative/non-mainstream music) just told me he didn’t like Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space so now I’m depressing all over it because I know nobody in real life that I can listen to it with.
How can he not like it???!!1It’s the best album ever made. WHY MUST HE HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN MEE!!?? I guess it’s you and me @QuarryMan

Listening to the CD Singles Collection. Of course I’m cheating. I ripped the whole thing, separating them into A-Sides and B-Sides when I tagged them. I’m listening to the 26 A-Sides. The more astute of you will recognize that that the tracklist is almost similar to 1. Why not listen to 1 you might wonder? Well, these are in glorious Mono; up to Ballad of John and Yoko of course.
