Just watched LCD’s breakup concert film/documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits. Predictably amazing; perhaps a little too reverential at times but mostly worth it. I’ve never seen concert footage that stunning before. Also awesome that Arcade Fire joined them onstage for ‘North American Scum’, and to get a brief glimpse of Donald Glover having the time of his life in the crowd.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

This covers the Kinks Arista years which in my personal development would be from 8th grade in school to the birth of my first natural child. There’s nothing as groundbreaking as their sixties work but most of what’s represented is very good. It’s very comfortable to me.

I have a different one-disc collection, covering “You Really Got Me” through “Come Dancing”…that and “Face to Face” plus my beloved old Reprise “Greatest Hits” on vinyl (owned since about age 13? 14?) and ?maybe? “The Kinks Chronicles” double vinyl are the only Kinks product currently in my possession. Great band! (kinda beat even George to the Indian music thang…)
Re-re-re-listening (and listening) to Syreeta’s 1974 LP right now, and will do so again later tonight.

Accordingly enough I was just listening to 1968’s The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.
Amazing record. Big Sky was definitely my fav track Does anyone else think long titles were popularized by Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band? Or is there a record with a long ass title that predates it?

So, I saw that the 50th anniversary of McCartney’s release was yesterday, so I decided to finally listen to it for the first time. Yes, please nobody kill me, up till this evening I had never listened to McCartney. I’m actually exceptionally unlearned in the topic of Beatles solo careers, I’m afraid.
Now’s as good a time as any. You can pretend it just came out.
@Jules my understanding has always been that, with Pepper, the Beatles were capitalizing on a presently-occurring trend toward long and ridiculous titles for bands like “Big Brother and the Holding Company” or “Strawberry Alarm Clock”.
Anyway, was listening to: a live-on-Zoom reading of the first 77 of Shakespeare’s sonnets
Am: myself playing Run Of The Mill
Next: George playing Run Of The Mill , probably

Though the title may suggest otherwise, this 1974 release is not a debut. 1972’s “Syreeta”, like this followup, was recorded with significant compositional and instrumental/vocal input from then-husband, now-ex Wonder. And indeed the key song here is the beautiful ballad “‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers” (“…doesn’t mean that we each other can’t be friends/…does our love for one another have to end?”.) Obviously it didn’t, since they’d work together here and in future. McCartneyesque touches include the gentle rain sound effects, the mini-suite on Side Two, and the brief reprise of “Sweet As Honey” at album’s end.

Bizarrely, I’ve been listening to a lot of 2pac over the last couple days. Not sure why, since he’s never exactly been my taste before now, but there’s about 6 or 7 of his songs that I’ve had on rotation.

Yep, that’s where I heard it first, on the George Martin-produced “Blow By Blow”. And that LPs instrumental (well, talkbox) cover of “She’s A Woman ” was likewise my introduction to that composition. I had no idea it was a Beatles song until some months later, when I borrowed “Beatles ’65” from the library and recognized the tune.

Having a look at Hank Williams and found a song titled ‘My Love For You (Has Turned To Hate)’. That’s a proper country song title if ever there was one and it’s a cracking tune, the kind you’d gently rock back and forth whilst sitting on your porch in a comfy chair on a lovely sunny date tappin’ your feet to the music.

Will: @lovelyritametermaid’s Taurus season playlist, probably (will dedicate this listening to my just-barely-Taurus friend who is just a little while away from having been alive for one-fifth of a century)

Not really much of an album per se, but I’ve been listening to this rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother ” quite a tad bit. If I may be completely honest, this is probably one of the best renditions out there.
