I’d suggest a more Scottish/Irish Celtic & Appalachian crossover, @vonbontee. Glad you decided to give this hug of an album a chance.
Sounds about right, geographically…there’s at least one accordion bit that suggested zydeco, but I need to listen more before making these grand pronouncements. Third playing in progress; if I get ambitious enough, I may google the lyrics for further research.
Anyways, earlier…the soundtrack to today’s daily cards-and-rye-and-maybe-another session with mombontee was The Supremes, full catalog, on shuffle. Didn’t realize they’d lasted long enough post-‘Miss Ross’ to go full-on disco, huh. (Man I love Spotify…despite the stuff missing)
(Yesterday : Two Lovin’ Spoonful albums and Rubber Soul , side one => tiebreaking game finished during “Michelle ” )

The Waterboys– Fisherman’s Blues (1988)
Hope you enjoy and look forward to any thoughts you’ve thunk on it.
Ah, it was so wonderful and such a lovely LP! I listened to it twice today and enjoyed each run thoroughly! Each track was lovely– my favorites include the title track, “We Will Not Be Lovers,” “World Party,” “Has Anybody Seen Hank?”, and “Sweet Thing” (I enjoyed it by itself, but I was completely thrown off guard but loved when he started singing the lyrics to “Blackbird ” ugh so magical ). “And A Bang on the Ear” was sweet and fun and “When Will We Be Married” was also very fun and catchy and I started to hum it and sing it ’round my house unconsciously. I love fiddles and I especially loved the use of it in this LP (though I still have to take a peek at the list of other instruments used). Overall, I adore how folky and warm and earthy the entire album sounded and felt, and it has earned a permanent place in my music library. Thanks, RN, for introducing it via Album of the Day! (God knows if I would’ve discovered it myself)
Anyhoo, I’m currently listening to:
Aoxomoxoa– Grateful Dead (1969)

Out in the street, thinking out loud

I had a $15.00 US credit from Amazon so I decided to by these somewhat quirky soundtracks. The Guardians one is by far the most conventional. It was also the shortest and the cheapest but it had a couple of desirable items, So You Are A Star by the Hudson Brothers and the extended album version of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive.
Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set up like an hour or so of listening to a radio station and as I never saw the movie that may be pertinent or not. Overall this is your typical Tarantino mix of recognizable but off the wall cuts, obscure stuff by name artists and where did this come from weirdness that may only be included to show off his taste buds
Lastly we have Baby Driver which is all over the map. This is another movie I’ve haven’t seen but this bizarre mix tape has a lot to recommend it. Going into details would only spoil your fun of discovery.
Now I just have to wait for the CDs to come. I do have Amazon’s auto rips to keep me company though.

@Beatlebug, I listened to Genie & Sorrow today while watching the rain. Also some Rainsong (Fortune’s Lullaby) from Winston’s Plains. Many songs reminiscent of the early seasons albums on that one.

Is it disco time in the Bontee household? it’s always disco time! I love this silly song unreservedly; that iconic bass line! And I know of no other ’70s hit with acid-fried lead guitar played by a woman…Groundbreaking!

I gave Public Image Ltd’s Metal Box a try for the first time yesterday; it’s very abrasive and at times hard to listen to, but there are some interesting ideas in there and the bass playing is phenomenal. I think I’ll be revisiting it at some point. I also listened to the whole of the Les Miserables soundtrack while I was out on my walk. I kept having to check nobody else was around before dramatically mouthing along to the words.
It’s the second sunny day in a while after a week or so of gloom, so I’m stretching out with LCD’s This Is Happening. Seriously, I won’t rest until every single member of this forum is an LCD believer. It’s just that good.

They’re on my list of albums that need to be listened to (it’s a very long list because dammit there’s way too much good music in this world it’s both wonderful and intimidating!), but I’ll prob get to it soon. I’m planning on having a Dylan-binge soon.

Some mellow live Floyd from about 1969, “Saucerful of Secrets” now I think.
If I had my way, I would marry Pink Floyd’s music from around ’69-’73 and we’d go live together in a cozy, mildly hippiesque pastoral dream, happily ever after.
Edit: dadgum it, it was actually “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” I sort of spaced out during the extended instrumental section and they all sort of run together into a pleasant summery haze now it’s Saucerful!

It happens. Once I was listening to Relics I think during study hall and I fell asleep listening to some long dreamy instrumental It wasn’t out of boredom, its just that the music was so mellow and enchanting. You’ve also reminded that I need to listen to more live Floyd, I’ll add that to my long list of music to listen to in quarantine
Now listening to:

Does anyone recognize an album called “Begin” by a 60s band called The Millenium?
Yesterday by sheer luck I found them and I’m obsessed with this album. I’ve never found such an underrated album. Not because it’s the best album ever made or whatever but I’ve seriously never heard anything from or about it. Which is pretty strange giving it has sharp melodies and tasteful production. It’s very Beatlesque (who didn’t they influenced anyway?) but it is very original as well and the melodies are fantastic. Please if you like corny flower power / baroque pop do yourself a favour and listen to this. Here’s a taste:
And oddly enough, the first track Prelude is very weirdly predicting hip hop. It’d make a great sample.
Anyway, I just couldn’t not recommend this to someone. The entire album is on this playlist:
