Just listened to Ghosteen by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. It’s really great; just atmospheric and emotional, a bit like Skeleton Tree except the pain is a bit less brutal.

Now I’m listening to Keith Jarrett’s 1975 Köln Concert

The following people thank QuarryMan for this post:

Von Bontee, Beatlebug

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Ha, I bought-then-resold two different CD copies of that classic (Koln Concert), 10 years apart, trying to appreciate it. And mostly failing! I’ve enjoyed Jarrett’s playing in other contexts (esp. ELECTRIC! w/Miles) but I find his approach to playing solo (uninterrupted rambles between jazz, classical/Romanticism, fake movie-music, new age minimalism and whatnot) irritates me as often as it stimulates. It works better, to my ears, as background music.

How do you like “Köln”, QM?

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

It’s been very bright and springlike and I plan to draw some Sartorial Fabulousity, so, because this album always sounded bright and springlike to me and I associate it with Bowie’s preternatural sharpness around this time:
David Bowie – Black Tie White Noise (1993)

My friend was singing this in the car the other night and it reminded me that I haven’t listened to it in a bit so I’m listening to this song + the entire Death of a Bachelor album by PATD!

"....When I cannot sing my heart, I can only speak my mind...."

"....This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around...."
