I edited my post. Not sure what I was thinking. The Wall is far from terrible. It’s one of those double album that would have made a great single. In fact, it might be the textbook example of it.
Haha, we all make mistakes. I know what you meant.
And I agree. The Wall is great, but there’s just a bit too much of it for my taste. I don’t mind double albums, if they’re not bloated, but they usually are (a good exception is Physical Graffiti, though side 4 is arguably a bit unnecessary). I kind of like the conciseness of a good, cohesive single album.
Anyway, currently listening to this album, released 45 years ago today:

I used to find it appalling, but I think it’s growing on me. It’s definitely a different vision of the song and I’m partial to the original dreamy feel, but it’s interesting.
In that vein, I’m listening to bits of the album over again — my favorites are the incredibly underrated “Win” and the incredibly not-underrated “Fame”.

Pet Sounds–specifically I’m Waiting For The Day at the moment. I am a blasphemer, because Pet Sounds is actually my favorite album, narrowly beating out Sgt. Pepper ‘s. I’m currently experiencing mild emotional turmoil, and this album is absolutely perfect for the mood I’m in.

^it’s okay, my favorite album is probably The Dark Side of the Moon or maybe Wish You Were Here or [whatever Zeppelin album I’m currently listening to, otherwise I can’t pick one] so I’m a blasphemer as well.

Glad to have been of service to ya.
Was: “He’s a Whore” – Cheap Trick
Now: “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” – The Band
Next: probably more Cheap Trick, to be honest I’ve been listening to and liking some of their stuff lately.

Been on a jazzy kick lately so haven’t visited with Cheap Trick for some time now. Think I’ll start with California Man because (well you know )

Ooh, “He’s a Whore”, love that song so much! (Sure wish some radio station would play it even ONCE, instead of “Surrrender” or “Want You To Want Me” for the millionth time.) As noted by rock critic Chuck Eddy, it’s got a vocal that’s vaguely McCartneyesque (specially that “Anytime at all…” refrain), but Paul himself never did anything with this kind of punk-pop energy. And he never, ever would’ve come up with that set of lyrics, either.
What I’m saying is this: “…Whore” is my favourite Cheap Trick jam, the song that leaps to mind whenever I think of that (spotty) debut album. And seeing the LP referenced on the forum yesterday, and then having Weepy single out that song itself…I have to play it for myself now!
*plays song twice, followed by whole album twice for reappraisal*
Nope, still a frustrating listen. Makes a great EP!
(Next album is better.)

I know what you mean VB. I think Rick was conflicted whether he wanted to be a guitarist or a comedian.

I was also listening to Rubber Soul last night and the night before! It’s one of the albums that I go to if I was having a rough day and need to calm down It’s just so familiar and comforting…..
Anyhoo, I’m listening to:
Talking Heads– Remain In Light (1980)
