After listening to TDSOTM three times today, I watched the new SNL where John Mulaney hosted and David Byrne was the musical guest, which reminded me of how I haven’t listened to The Talking Heads lately so here we are…
The Talking Heads– Talking Heads: 77 (1977)
Talking Heads! My dad’s favorite band, and one of my favorites as well. I saw John Mulaney’s open, but still need to check out David Byrne’s performance. Come to think of it, I should also listen to DSOTM one of these days.
Speaking of John Mulaney…I don’t know where else to put this story, but I have been just a few feet away from the man before. I don’t want to get into it here in case I derail this thread, but I would like to share it somewhere. Any ideas? The “Incredibly impossible to derail this thread” thread, perhaps?
Oh my goodness please share it somewhere I need to know this story John Mulaney is one of my most favorite people of all time
Anyhoo, I’m currently exploring this artist and the released tracks of his upcoming first studio album (to be fully released on March 20th):
Conan Gray– Kid Krow (2020)
His stuff is okay. I like his single “Maniac” a lot. I’m kind of surprised myself because I never usually go for music like this, but “Maniac” kind of drew me in a little.

Loved that record so much when I was 11! (yeah I bought the single, of course I did) “Ohhhh, those Russians!”
Also loved: “Nutbush City Limits” cover on the latest Schwarzwolke offeringFabulous song, fabulous cover. Another solid offering from OUR OWN TheHoleGotFixed and collaborators! Keep on with the rock-and-roley, Holey!

High praise! Glad you liked that one. Definitely a fun one to cover, can thoroughly recommend it to anyone musical.
That’s one of the few times I’ve actually recorded my primary instrument, French horn. I should do it more often…

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

My friendmate* and I have promised we’ll go through Queen’s discography more or less together and actually get it done after years of “Meaning To”.

I took my niece to see Queen with Adam Lambert last fall. Show was great with lots of laser action and Brian May has dangerous fingers. He did a guitar solo based on a classical piece while he appeared to be flying atop a purple asteroid (see below). I thought Adam did a good job performing with Mercury’s energy and spirit. The crowd help lift him up with lot’s of loud sing-a-long and choreographed hand gestures that I only knew about from the recent movie. One thing I loved, sitting in front of us was a 12 year old Japanese girl and her straight-laced dad. She would fly out of her seat and shriek at the first note of practically every song. The surprised look on her dad’s face was priceless.
