That was my first listen – I’ve only previously heard a handful of tracks, after a friend recommended her. (We’re both old and jaded about the pop charts, but always on the lookout for magic among the crap.) So far, of her music, I’ve heard several songs I liked, and a few I really didn’t; and some that are just “meh, whatever”. And nothing that I love, so far, sadly. But I know how big a inspiration she is to people, so good fr her!
What are your favourites of hers, lovelyrita?

While I love her to death, I can agree that there are some “meh” tracks on her debut EP, but “Good as Hell” is a real bop.
Most of my favorites come from Cuz I Love You: “Truth Hurts” (her most popular song and thus the most “mainstream”) is an absolute bop that I highly recommend. “Juice” and “Better in Color” are both really good and I love “Tempo”. My favorite, however, is the title track “Cuz I Love You.” I recommend listening to the whole album, though, I love it all and its definitely worth a listen.
I find it actually fascinating how much I love her music because I’m definitely not a big contemporary pop and hip hop fan (I’m not even a big contemporary rock fan). I think I love her mostly because of genuine confidence and positivity she brings through with her lyrics and how she really welcomes every audience instead of just making music that’s relatable to only skinny, white girls who depend on men (nothing wrong with that type of girl, it’s just that mostly the world caters to them like they’re the only type of female that exists) Also, the music, in general, is just very easy to dance to and instantly lifts my spirits. I can also understand, however, that her music may not be someone’s cup of tea, but I still think its definitely worth giving her a try.
**Edit: Aight, to go back on track with the thread, I’m currently listening to:
Nirvana– MTV Unplugged in New York (1994)

I really don’t think that’s the case, at least in my experience. The ideal woman in media and pop culture, at least in recent decades, has been the strong empowered woman who doesn’t need no man. Relatively skinny and attractive, yes, because attractiveness sells, but not always white and not dependent on men.
Anyway, I’m currently listening to an album that was released on this day in 1976, possibly the man’s greatest work:
David Bowie – Station To Station

Released on this day in 1977 (what an exciting decade, musically ):
…and coincidentally enough, I am myself, right now, listening to a remarkable recording from that remarkable year
Between “Star Wars”, this unprecedented song on hit radio, and an older distant cousin’s introducing me to punk rock (Ramones in particular), 1977 was a pretty overwhelming year for a ten-year old. (And I discover these new sounds even as my original rocknroll hero dies at 42…OH THE SYMBOLISM!)

Haven’t listened to Aphex Twin in waaaaaaayyyyy too long, so I’m playing the Richard D James Album now, a couple of the tracks kind of remind me of Mort Garson’s Plantasia.

My wizard-friend is playing some traditional Vietnamese folk opera on Blackout Radio in honor of Lunar New Year, and lemme tell you, Yoko has nothing on this lady. I can vouch from long personal experience that Vietnamese is a language that lends itself far better than English or Japanese to this kind of squawk-singing.
–oops now it’s Robert Burns. I swear he designed this particular transition just for my family heritage

I just checked my LastFM account and it turns out that last night, getting home drunk from a night out, I listened to Frank Ocean’s Blonde all the way through six times. I have zero recollection of that
More recently, I just listened to Pixies’ Doolittle all the way through for the first time in a while and I’m sat grinning from ear to ear. It’s such a wonderfully bonkers album from start to finish. Plus Kim Deal’s bass sound is sooooo satisfying.

That sounds awful, I’m never gonna drink the hARDest tHINg to bEAr is a BLACKOOUT!!!
(The closest I’ve got is blacking out asleep from overtiredness while listening to something, usually Pink Floyd, and remembering nothing from about ‘Money’ onwards — which is actually pretty fun, because when you’re listening to something and you’re in that twilight zone between being awake and blacking out, music sounds really trippy and amazing. )

Thanx for that Tiny Desk link, QMan. She’s got talent, wit and a rapport with the audience, for sure. I do wish she could reduce the number of screeches and growls and “motherfeckers” – like, just be more judicious about it, y’know?
I still have to listen to those Lizzo recommendations from the other day. In the meantime, it’s Martha and and the Vandellas.
