I’m more of a “The Little Blue Frog guy myself, as I find even Pharoah’s Dance to have more of a groove than Bitches Brew, however I do appreciate the way that Miles seems to combine the idea of free jazz with psychedelic rock in a way only he could do.

For sure. I know he dismissed free jazz as largely the realm of black musicians trying to cater to white critics, but I think he did draw influence from it for Bitches Brew. And yeah, I find those first two tracks to be the most challenging on the record, but if I’m in the right mood (i.e. stoned* and speculative) they can be just the thing
*stoned in a strictly metaphorical sense only

Was: About half of Let’s Dance by David ‘Oh s**t it’s the 80’s now, what do I do?’ Bowie
Am: The most David ‘I’m a Cracked Actor now’ Bowieish songs from Labyrinth
Next: The only bits of David ‘Oh s**t it’s the 80’s now what the feck am I doing here’ Bowie’s career that I can stand – ‘Loving The Alien’, ‘Time Will Crawl’, and ‘Zeroes’
After that, I’m skipping Tin Machine (sorry) straight to bits and pieces from David ‘Transcendental’ Bowie’s The Buddha of Suburbia (1993) (which has probably my favorite Bowiesong of all time, ‘Untitled No. 1’) and then most of Black Tie White Noise (1993) by newlywed David ‘So happy people want to strangle me most of the time’ Bowie. I’ll probably be forced by Time (he’s waiting in the wings, he speaks of senseless things) to stop there for today.
I’ll pick up where I left off on Friday, after a glorious Pageday of GETTING THE LED OUT tomorrow

I didn’t get through as much Bowie as I’d hoped today…..I had to take a break for swim practice.
But I just finished Hunky Dory (I hate how behind I am. Stupid responsibilities…) and plan on stretching Bowiefest out until Friday. I’m going to bed now, but I will start my morning off fresh by listening to Ziggy all through-out the car-ride to school, homeroom, and physics class.

Now that it is Jimmy Page’s birthday I must take a break from Bowie till tomorrow… so LET THE ZEPPATHON BEGIN
I’ve never actually done the Zeppathon — the binge-listening rite of passage where you listen to all of Led Zeppelin’s albums in one go — and after my mammoth Bowiebinge yesterday, I feel like today is the perfect day to do it. I think Jimmy would approve.
So, with that end in mind, I am currently listening to Led Zeppelin’s first album, with the rest of their studio albums (except Coda) queued up…

Hmmmmmm I should probably continue my exploration and education of the Led Zep discography but I already started Ziggy…..Oh well I’ll finish that up and then I think I will also take a Bowie break and start my Zep journey where I left off and go off on my own Zeppathon in honor of Jimmy Page
Now:
David Bowie– The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Next:
Led Zeppelin– Led Zeppelin III
((Edit: special thanks to certain lovely people on this forum that have inspired me to get into Led Zep ))

Yesss!!! I fully approve.
My listenings so far –
Was: Led Zeppelin (early 1969)
Am: Led Zeppelin II (late 1969)
Next:
Led Zeppelin– Led Zeppelin III
You’re gonna love it (and see if you recognize my current signature)
((Edit: special thanks to certain lovely people on this forum that have inspired me to get into Led Zep ))
Thank you for getting into Led Zepp, it does my heart good to see someone treading the same path I so eagerly tore down just two short years ago

My Zeppathon is progressing nicely, I’ve just finished the fourth album and am onto Houses of the Holy… about halfway through the albums and halfway through the day.
It is the summer of my smiles…

Open following for a rambling about Led Zep:
Okay, but Led Zeppelin III was absolutely positively terrific and is definitely my favorite album so far. I loved every single song on it and I especially loved the acoustic-based and folkish songs (To quote Brand New, I’m “a sucker for anything acoustic….”). “Tangerine” was lovely, “Out on the Tiles” and “Celebration Day” were awesome, and of course I was already familiar with “Immigrant Song” (partly due to Shrek and also the fact that I can play it on trumpet and have performed it with the University of Pittsburgh marching band which was extremely cool and I’m def gonna dig up the sheet music for it tonight….)
But anyways……
Now:
Led Zeppelin IV— Led Zeppelin
Next:
Houses of the Holy— Led Zeppelin
This is my guitar teacher’s favorite, so I have high expectations….

^ENJOY. It’s SO GOOD (as Plant expresses at the very end, saying aloud what we were all thinking )
I’ve just finished it, and am on to the magnificent double album Physical Graffiti (1975)… OOOOOOOOHHHH *headbangs wildly*

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Yes. Its got funky John Mclaughlin wah pedal guitar work throughout. I’m not the biggest Bitches Brew guy, but that song is sweet.

On to Presence now – we’re in the home stretch, lads!
I’m debating whether or not I want to listen to Coda. On one hand, it is technically part of the Zeppathon canon; on the other hand, I don’t have it (which is not a huge problem, I have Spotify) and I don’t generally think of it as being part of their studio album canon, but rather a loose assortment of odds and ends to provide some kind of closure to Led Zeppelin. Thoughts?
