I hadn’t listened to Wish You Were Here in 3+ years
HOW
I pity you.
I’m currently listening to David Bowie (Space Oddity album thingy), the amazing, clunky yet epic ‘Cygnet Committee’.

(Admittedly I’m abridging them slightly, so as to get through as much of his enormous catalogue as I can in one day. )
That’s a good idea! I was planning on just walking around school all day with my headphones in and possibly having to stay up until midnight to listen to everything (because I’m crazy and I’ll prob still end up doing that anyway)
((I also admittedly sidetracked myself this morning because I wanted to get a listen in of Band On The Run so as to speed along with my current mission of listening to all of the McCartney and Wings catalog in chronological order. I regret it now…….there’s too limited a time for Bowie listening ))

….me too also, I can’t bear to abridge some of them too much, you know? I only managed to excise two songs from Hunky Dory (I’m not revealing which ones), which is basically pointless anyway. (I’ll probably skip over most of the Eighties altogether, though save one or two songs such as ‘Absolute Beginners’ and ‘Cat People (Putting Out Fire)’)

Oh yeah, I’m skipping right from Let’s Dance to Black Star. I’m also skipping PinUps and Lodger because I don’t have them downloaded onto Apple Music. Song-wise, I’m mainly skipping through instrumentals (so that means half of “Heroes” . ) and cutting songs off at 3 minutes to abridge the albums.
Was:
Space Oddity— David Bowie
Am:
The Man Who Sold the World– David Bowie
Note: I started with “Heroes” because my heart said that I really needed to listen to “Joe the Lion” and the title track.

Why would you cut a song off at three minutes before it ends? Seems wildly unsatisfying to me.

Oh my god, it is believe me! But to be clear: I skip to the parts I love the most if the song is longer and then skip to the end.

Am: Aladdin Sane (1973)

((Darn, I hoped to fix it before anyone noticed. But it’s fixed now so anyhoo….))
I’m sorry!! Black Tie White Noise and Heathen are also not downloaded onto my phone! Trust me, if they were I would be listening…….. Also, I prefer to listen to Bowie instrumentals alone, in my room, but I am currently in a loud public school……

^ ah well then, I understand. Do check out Heathen sometime — insanely great album, imo. Massive, melancholy soundscapes. The title track is one of Bowie’s many great ruminations on mortality, the live version of which may make you cry as nearly as it did David.

Was:
David ‘I’m not hiding behind a character this time… I’m hiding getting back to my roots in Europe’ Bowie – Low (early 1977)
Am:
David ‘I’m not hiding behind a character this time… I’m hiding in Berlin’ Bowie – “Heroes” (late 1977)
Next:
David ‘I’m not hiding behind a character this time… I’m hiding behind a couple of them, in drag‘ Bowie – Lodger (1979)
Oh, I gave up on abridging the albums around Station to Station. I love the European Trio (S2S through “Heroes”, in my opinion the truer alternative to the popular ‘Berlin Trilogy’ concept) too much to skip any of them. I might jump through Lodger and Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), though.

My friend is playing an open-mic tomorrow night, I might see if I can get on stage and play it
You should do it!
Loving the avatar, Rita!
“Ramble On” is a great one; jpj is responsible for damn near most of the melody himself. And then there’s “Celebration Day”, and “The Rover”, and assorted wanton songs, lemon songs, rain songs remaining the same…wotta genius!
Playing my snapshot-of-1984 Spotify list; just finished “Authority Song” and “Right By Your Side” (John Cougar Mellencamp, Eurythmics), and now up is “Suck Your Bone”, from the debut LP by Quebec’s seminal prog-thrashers Voivod.
(please send me your 1984-and-late-1983 song suggestions for the list, everyone! )
