The first time i listened to a Beatles album this decade, Meet The Beatles! followed by Twist And Shout . While i’ve listened to the former many times and view it very highly, this was my first time listening to the latter and while From Me To You fits nicely in-between Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You, Anna (Go To Him) is a terrible opener and it’s really weird hearing She Loves You after Twist And Shout .

Just listened to the whole of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ album Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus. Captivating stuff, has to be my favourite of theirs that I’ve heard thus far.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Syd Barrett – The Madcap Laughs (1970)e
Lovely drawing as always there bebu…….and hey, I need your expert help!
I’m compiling (while listening to) my personal spotify mix; it documents the explosion of excellence in 1984’s popular (and UNpopular) music, and I’d appreciate a Bowiemendation or two: Certainly “Blue Jean”, maybe “Loving the Alien”, any others?? Thanks!
Everybody else, also please feel free to make suggestions of your own favourite tunes recorded or released in that particular year (or in late 1983) and I’ll likely add them. (Thank you for doing my work for me!)
Now playing: Tracy Ullman’s “They Don’t Know” (almost a Beatley moment, that)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Thank you @vonbontee! I don’t know I can help you with Bowie in 1984, since I do my best to pretend that year didn’t exist for him (apart from ‘Loving The Alien’ of course)

B-b-but whattabout the 20-minute short film/promo video he did that year – fine bit of comedic acting there! And the single (tuneful, dancy) was deffo part of the zeitgeist of the time. (lol I am pretentious 🙂 )

Ah, Jazzin’ for Blue Jean was the best thing to come out of the year for him. He later said that nerd character was the one he related to the most, out of all the characters he ever played. As for the song, it’s such a maddening earworm, I can’t stand it. (Didn’t stop me from being over the moon when I caught a fleeting glimpse of it in the background of some random vlog I was randomly watching a few months back A Bowie moment is a Bowie moment, even if it’s a song I hate!)
Currently listening to ‘The Logical Song’ by Supertramp (homework. I have a gig coming up).

Hope the gig went well. I’ll give myself a preview of “Tonight”‘a tracks…
Supertramp”s mid-to-late ’70s works (produced by the famous Ken Scott) made them my favouritest band EVER, when I was twelve…(Beatles didn’t really REALLY kick in until 13)…Their stuff really was immaculate crafted, sonically, and very Beatlish at times. imo.
Now playing: Foreigner, “Reaction to Action”, possibly that average band’s last decent hard rock-groover. imo.

Looking for some decent jazz from 1984 for my Spotify mix documenting that year, and am currently exploring Branford Marsalis’ “Scenes in the City”, with its “Physical Graffiti” homaging cover:
https://www.discogs.com/Branfo…..ase/396973
(Marsalis sez Zep was his favourite band in high school; nerdy brother Wynton was into Yes instead.)
…and in the time it took to type this, the track changed to “No More Lonely Nights”

Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I hadn’t listened to Wish You Were Here in 3+ years until my friend played that song yesterday and I was reminded how awesome it is. It’s amazing how it manages to be both groovy and psychedelic simultaneously
