Still smiling and leaping randomly back/forth through Sleater-Kinney’s (pre-2010s) back catalog…These amazing ladies have been pretty consistent; all of these albums are enjoyable, and not always easy to differentiate (despite the predictable polish and experimentation over a decade). Now on “Dig Me Out” from 1997 (maybe their…AHDN ,? trajectory-wise?)

AHDN would be a good comparison for Dig Me Out, definitely. Really the moment where everything came together, for both bands.
Can’t find it on youtube, but I’m listening to one of my favourite jazz pieces of the decade, ‘Truth’ by Kamasi Washington.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Released on this day in 1970 –
George Harrison – All Things Must Pass
And as it so happens, today is an ideally overcast November day for this particular listening

Rest in peace (and beautiful noise) Jimi.
(Phun Phact: Hendrix joined the Isley Brothers band as guitarist on 9 February 1964, and afterward they all gathered at the brothers’ New York apartment to watch the Beatles!)

…and I’ll take a cue from BB and throw some Hendrix on the headphones while I watch the Maple Leafs stamp out Detroit. This bootleg studio jam with guitarist John McLaughlin is historically invaluable, if ultimately a letdown.

I’m currently listening to the Byrds–”He Was a Friend Of Mine” at this specific moment. Listening to them reminds me how many great songs Bob Dylan wrote. It’s dismaying: I don’t really like listening to any of his original version of any of his songs, and yet he was easily one of the best lyricists of the 60s at the least. What gives?
