Took a break from my Weird Al marathon to listen to Ringo Starr ‘s new album, What’s My Name.
Weird Al will continued after that, and then I think I’m gonna run through the entire Electric Light Orchestra discography for the first time.

Really enjoying Duke Ellington’s “Far East Suite”. Inspired by the band’s tour of the Eastern parts of the globe, it doesn’t seem to have any real attempts to imitate the music of the countries they visited, but the compositions and arrangements are all vivid and full-bodied.
Recorded December 21-23, 1966 (Beatles work on SFF and 64) and released June 1967, so the album had a similar gestation period to “Pepper”; and the most straight-ahead bluesy track (jazz swing replaced by rock ‘n roll drums) is a Pepper as well

I went back on David Bowie’s “Young Americans”, which I would say is one of David Bowie’s more underrated albums. Sometimes I wonder how Bowie went from “Diamond Dogs” to “Young Americans”, given the seemingly large gap between the two sub-genres.
Regardless, Bowie takes upon the incarnation of a soul singer so well that it almost seems that Bowie was almost quite like a British James Brown. Production wise, I would also say that it is one of his best, which is saying something given that Bowie was never a stranger to good production.
Highlights for me are “Young Americans”, “Fascination”, “Someone Up There Loves Me” and “Fame”.

My mad wizard friend is making his DJ debut right now.Tonight there were some technical difficulties and he was unable to play what he had planned to, instead having to rely on the station’s existing rotation. His programme is called ‘Blackout Radio’ and will be airing every second Friday night 8-10 PM EST, hopefully properly from now on.
It’s pwoper now and I’m listening to ‘Devil’s Radio’!
Once again…. only this is the HALLOWEEN EDITION! (although Blackout Radio is usually quite Halloween anyway so it’s just extra Blackoutish)
Currently on Midge Ure’s cover of David Bowie’s ‘The Man Who Sold The World’, which he terms ‘almost unbearably spOooOky’

@Beatlebug My favorite version of “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” is the live at Pompeii version. The live rendition on “Ummagumma” is not bad as well.
It’s between that one and the one I posted above for me – I’ve got a big playlist with all the different versions I could find on YouTube ‘cuz a) I love it that much and b) it changed a lot over the years and it’s very cool to track its evolution.
Listening to this song (in honour of Steven Wilson’s birthday) and trying my best not to cry

Was:
“The Essential Little Richard” – A spectacular album that shaped the tracks which would go on to define rock-and-roll for the decades to come. Many legendary artists (including the fabulous four) would go on to cite Richard as one of their main sources of inspiration. Highlights for me include: “Tutti Frutti”, “Good Golly, Miss Molly”, “Lucille ” and “Long Tall Sally “.
Now:
“In Through the Out Door”, Led Zeppelin – Contrary to popular belief, I don’t think it’s that bad. Mind you, I fully understand it’s not their best, but not exactly their worst tracks yet. “Hot Dog”, although stale after a while, is still a decent track to listen to. Apart from “Hot Dog” (which I should mention is probably the least good track on the album), the other songs range from alright to amazing. Highlights for me include “In the Evening”, “Fool In the Rain ” and “All My Love”.
Next:
I don’t have anything yet to listen to, perhaps one of you folks can offer me a suggestion?
