Earlier – Inspired by hearing that Coup album upthread, I’ve been getting my hip-hop rocks off for the last few days, not only checking out a few other albums of theirs, but also Qman faves Digable Planets (diggable indeed) and Roxanne Shante’s “The Bitch is Back”.
Now – first movement of Famous Beethoven’s “Harp” quartet

Bob took a break after 1966, and so did I. I’m restarting the marathon (looking at doing 1967 to 1976 in part two) in the next day or two. I’ve ummed and ahhed about whether I would wait until I reached 1975, but too many questions about things that contradict the chronology that I know I needed a listen.
Mick Ronson’s lead guitar is constantly surprising and the anchor. The Joan Baez duets are stunning, and it’s great to finally have Never Let Me Go officially released. While you’d think the Joanie duets would be the most fascinating, the really fascinating duets (for me, at least) are between Bobby’s voice and Scarlet Rivera’s gypsy violin.
14 discs of Bobby firing on all cylinders, supported by a fantastic band called Guam.

Heh, their song ‘It’s Good To Be Here’ came on shuffle just as I read this. One of the best things about being both a jazz and hip-hop fan is recognising samples in the latter from albums you’ve heard from the former – in this case I only just twigged that the intro to ‘It’s Good To Be Here’ comes from Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rain Dance’, which I heard in a marathon of his stuff I was doing the other week.
Now listening to the debut album from Tom Misch, a songwriter who mixes hip-hop-esque beats with his own wonderful jazz guitar playing. This song has a cool feature from jazz-hop legends De La Soul.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

If you remember living through the ’60s you weren’t really there, as the saying goes, while if you remember living through the ’80s…
…unfortunately you were!!!
But my teenage years are where (some of ) my guilty pleasures are found…

Ooh, King Crimson! A teenage (and post teen) favourite. Robert Fripp is a guitar god of mine.
Bonus Beatle fun when you reach KC album #3, “Lizard”: “Happy Family” is an allegory about the Beatles breakup (you can spot em on the full size cover too!)
EP, do you have the Dolenz/Jones/Boyce/Hart LP?

No, sadly. My Monkees discography is miniscule, ownershipwise.
I need to rewatch “Head” eventually.

I still need to get the Deluxe Editions of the albums and I want to delve into Mike’s solo work as well.
I also need to watch “Head” again.
