B-52s and Talking Heads? Sounds like a good playlist to me
I just heard the phrase ‘high and dry’ used, so now I have to listen to ‘High And Dry’ – Radiohead.

Listening to this cool new album I discovered today. A mixture of free jazz with spoken word political stuff on top.
that sounds awful (I mean just from your description)
It’s LedTime! with In Through The Out Door (1979)
Hot dog!
Imperial Entanglements track was extremely cool! Very Ornette-like…

The greatest tragedy about that mix is that it crops out so much of the good stuff!! The second verse gives it so much more “context”.
This is a much better mix (though the bass is much lower in the mix):
Ironic you mention that today as one of my bandmates and I started recording Planet Claire today

It’s certainly not for everyone
Dead on with the Ornette comparison – There’s a lot of ‘Lonely Woman ‘ in there.
Here’s one I think you’ll really dig @vonbontee , it’s a London jazz band (featuring the talents of Nubya Garcia on sax and flute) with a big influence from Pharoah Sanders, particularly tracks like ‘The Creator Has A Master Plan’.

vonbonteeI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Nice!
And yeah, “Lonely Woman ” is in there, and I think some ideas from “Science Fiction” too. Ornette really liked that trick of combining a fast rhythm with a slooowly unfolding mournful melody, it seems. Anyways, I liked it. (No solos or even much horn improv is interesting, but I assume they stretch out more elsewhere on their album?)

The album is pretty atmospheric overall, but if I recall correctly there are a few solos here and there. There are certainly a couple of up tempo tracks. Speaking of UK jazz, did you hear the The Comet Is Coming album from earlier this year? It was excellent.
On topic, while I’ve definitely made by Velvet Underground love pretty clear across the forum, I don’t think I’ve appreciated Nico enough for her ice queen voice.
I’ve also been listening to this classic Cranberries track rather a lot lately. I love Dolores’ voice.

I descended from my tree for this, @50yearlate…David Bowie – Heathen(released on this day in 2002)
Edit: aaargh sorry @50yearslate
I doubly approve, @betlebug. Oops, sorry, I meant @beatlbug…
I’d take Heathen to my own tree, but it is too hot for me to willingly venture outdoors. Also, I have to work on my English final.
(and i’m listening to The Stars (Are Out Tonight) )
