I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I’ve always wondered whether that “li la li” bit was inspired by “I’ve Just Seen A Face ” – same as I obsess over the “Mrs. Robinson”/”Walrus” similarity. (Coo coo ca choo!)
Continuing with the MJ session, I found “Bad” to be okay, and “Dangerous” the same – better than I expected, that one. And I still think his music had declined already, but I’m a bit prejudiced because I have negative feelings about that whole “new jack swing” subgenre in general.
Right now: Charles Mingus, “The Shoes of the Fisherman’s Wife are a Pair of Jive-Ass Slippers”.

Charlie had quite the talent for amazing titles, his best known piece is called Goodbye Pork Pie Hat

Well, “Porkpie Hat” was tenor sax player Lester Young, so the title is in memoriam.
And then there’s “All The Things You Could Be By Now if Sigmund Freud’s Wife Was Your Mother ” (which means nothing, as the composer himself admits.)

Daytime Nighttime Suffering. Excellent B side from Wings and a possible future contender for our ultimate lost solo album game, perhaps? Also, am I the only one who thinks the riff from the “is all she gets” parts sounds like something from an early (c. 1963ish) Beatles song? For some reason, I can only picture a young George instead of Laurence Juber playing that part…
