I would very much like to attend a BeatlebugBand concert, especially if this sort of thing is on the setlist. Maybe they can do one in the BeatlesBible House

Come to our concert on the first of June. We’ll be collecting donations for charity.
And if North Carolina is a bit out of your way, maybe I’ll collect some audio at some point… who knows?

hahaha we should though it’s not my band, it’s just shorthand for ‘the band that I’m in’, we’re called the Offbeats. That is in no way an homage to that other band with ‘beat’ in their name, of course.
Anyway, I’m currently listening to this

Ahhh yes, that concert is terrific! I haven’t viewed the entire film yet, alas, but I’ve listened to the soundtrack and seen clips from of it. My friend is a huge Talking Heads fan, maybe someday he’ll put me through Stop Making Sense and I’ll make him watch The Song Remains the Same with me.
(And now I’m forced to listen to ‘Girlfriend Is Better’ from that film, look what you made me do )

Interesting how at about 3:40 you can start picking out songs…
I got the guitar from Come Together , Hey Jude , A Day In The Life , among others.
Also interesting how you can really hear how Beatles songs are weighted to the left channel (*cough* 2 and 4 track equipment *cough*)

Ah, the eternal conflict: which live album/film combo is better out of Stop Making Sense and The Song Remains The Same? I’d also make a case for Fishmans’ live album/film 98.12.28 ????? too, on which @vonbontee can back me up, but I haven’t seen the whole thing yet.
Currently I’m listening to this stunning folk rock track from the new Big Thief album, one of my favourite bands working today.

For me the prize goes to Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii, but I suppose you could call the three a sort of Holy Trinity.

As a huge Zep fan, and a mild TH one, I give the nod to SMS as the more enjoyable document. Zep’s film is very ambitious, but some of the results are sloppy or silly, and the performances vary (and are largely studio reshoots completed long after the MSG concerts.) The SMS performance is brilliantly conceived and staged, and I appreciated the “Speaking in Tongues” material more here than in the album. (I do regret the shortage of “Remain in Light”/”Fear of Music”, and also the lack of Adrian Belew.)
Still haven’t watched Floyd at Pompeii…think I might rectify that later on!
Concert docs, possible best: The Maysles Bros’ “Gimme Shelter” is stunning, a document of the Stones’ 1969 US Tour, climaxing in the horrific Altamont debacle. Aside from the shattering real-world tragedy, the Stones themselves are superb, peaking as performers. (irrelevant factoid: George Lucas was on the Maysles crew, but his camera malfunctioned, and only a single spooky nighttime shot was usable.)
And if we’re talking festival rock docs, “Woodstock” and “Monterey Pop” are obvious favourites. Oh, and I can’t forget the full Hendrix performances from both…
Guess I’ll go ahead and screen Floyd at Pompeii now!…Recorded October 4-7, 1971…(ex-Beatles do stuff, probably)

I can get that. I’ll have to watch them both and compare.

YES! It’s a very cut-rate-budget film but has a charm to it, somehow… at least in my biased eyes.

I haven’t seen the full Pompeii film but I should rectify that soon. I guess I was put off by not knowing many of the songs they played (bar Echoes, which is probably the most impressive song I’ve heard from them) but I’ve played a couple of their early albums since then so I should be more familiar.
I think The Song Remains The Same has the advantage of all the cool dream sequences, particularly the one in The Rain Song, which is absolutely stunning both in the live performance and the studio version. How virtuosic Zep were at their respective instruments is another big advantage it has, as Talking Heads are more focused with groove than improvisation, which is better for dancing than sitting down to watch a film. I think I prefer Stop Making Sense overall though, because I prefer its versions of pretty much every song (bar Once In A Lifetime) to the studio ones. Also, I have the biggest crushes on both David Byrne and Tina Weymouth in that film
Unrelated, how amazing is Amy Winehouse’s debut!? This song is absolutely stunning…
