Recorded April 1, 1963…Beatles on the radio, no fooling!
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’ve never listened to Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, is it worth getting into?
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

@QuarryMan Absolutely. I can’t say I’m a huge fan, but that’s only because I haven’t managed to listen to a whole lot of his stuff yet. He’s a bit like Bowie, he’s an utter workaholic and has done more albums than my entire record collection pretty much. And of a similarly consistent standard of quality, too.
Based on what I’ve heard, Porcupine Tree is good, but I’m also fond of some of his solo stuff — especially The Raven That Refused to Sing, which is heavily influenced by classic progressive rock (I think he described it as a love letter to Seventies prog).
I’m now listening to Epsilon in Malaysian Pale (1975) by Edgar Froese — one of Bowie’s favourites during the Berlin years.

Hey wasn’t it Steven Wilson whose favourite LP was Tangerine Dream’s “Zeit”? Or was that someone else?…

Yeah, it’s cropped up a few times as his all-time favourite in a few lists of his record choices, @vonbontee…
For me the original and greatest ambient record, years before the notion of “ambient” music existed. It’s music without melody, rhythm or structure, but listening to it is like filling the room with the most beautiful and mysterious perfume. Or like being suspended in the void. The opening 7 minutes with 8 cellists gradually weaving in and out of tune really sets up the subtle balance between unease and beauty that the album maintains for over 70 minutes. I can never get tired of listening to it.

I gave it a listen on that account, and I can’t say I was quite that impressed with it. Personally, I need some melody, rhythm and structure to fill my mental room with perfume. I personally prefer Edgar Froese (formerly of Tangerine Dream)’s Epsilon in Malaysian Pale, as noted above…
Currently, though, I’m listening to David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs (1974)

I’ve never heard anything by him that you didn’t post on Up/Down. (And I don’t enjoy that parricular TD album either…)

Today has become an all-out Beatlethon– I’m nearly done with Rubber Soul now, and I think I’ll listen to Help next. Or maybe Please Please Me . We’ll see.
Edit: I chose Help .

I say
Today has become an all-outBeatleZeppethon– [snip]
After concluding Physical Graffiti, I spent about half an hour yapping with my sister about various Zeppelin-images which appeared prime slug solo material, what type of My Little Pony each member would be, and so much more.
EDIT 15 mintues later: And now it’s Led Zeppelin’s In Through The Out Door (1979). I do not have a problem, I swear.
