For me, it’s kind of a White Album thing in that it being so jarring makes me appreciate it more. The guts of taking perhaps your most iconic album cover (from one of your best loved albums) and subverting it in that way… I don’t know; I would definitely agree that it’s not particularly pleasing aesthetically. Perhaps I like the idea of the cover more than the cover itself.

Beatlebug, Elementary PenguinI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Ah, I see. I can appreciate that.
*not quite as iconic as, say, Aladdin Sane, but it’s up there. Really, all of his 70’s albums had pretty iconic covers.
I’ve finished The Next Day, and now I’m listening to Muse’s 1999 debut album, Showbiz. Not my favourite of theirs, but it’s been too long…

It’s very fascinating, @Elementary Penguin , especially how Bowie cast the musicians. I think the influences are the most interesting part, though. The fact that Bowie was listening to and appreciating the artists that are as boundary pushing to my generation (Kendrick, Death Grips) as he was to his generation, and that he drew upon the work of those artists to create his final masterpiece, is so mindblowing to me.
That is good to hear. I love that Bowie was listening and being influenced by modern music instead of trying to live in the past. That is a good way to be.
Also I am currently listening to Shadow Zone by Static-X.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

I’ve never heard of Static-X. I’ll have to check them out someday.
They can be a little intense but they are a lot of fun. They are an Industrial/Metal band but they describe their music as Evil Disco.
I am going through all of their albums and I am now up to Start a War.

Man, I have totally neglected Bob Dylan lately. This one is one of my favourite’s of this, even though it recycles the chords and melody from Girl From The North Country.
Oh, I’m sailin’ away my own true love
I’m sailin’ away in the morning
Is there something I can send you from across the sea
From the place that I’ll be landing? No, there’s nothin’ you can send me, my own true love
There’s nothin’ I wish to be ownin’
Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled
From across that lonesome oceanOh, but I just thought you might want something fine
Made of silver or of golden
Either from the mountains of Madrid
Or from the coast of BarcelonaOh, but if I had the stars from the darkest night
And the diamonds from the deepest ocean
I’d forsake them all for your sweet kiss
For that’s all I’m wishin’ to be ownin’

Is that just them being self-referential? They literally used the ending to Mr Blue Sky just after 4 minutes….
I guess so. You could argue that they used the beginning of ‘Big Wheels’ for ‘Mr Blue Sky’…
Currently listening to ‘Cook Of The House’ – Wings At The Speed Of Sound (1976).
