Eh. It had its odd moments where i could hear brilliance peeking through, but otherwise it seemed pretty forgettable to me.Now I’m listening to Hunky Dory as a reminder that he did eventually learn how to write absolutely cracking pieces of work.
Watching labyrinth rn, I listened to Space Oddity and Aladdin Sane, i’ll be binging the rest later.

Bowie’s obviously got better albums than his eponymous debut, but I think that album is underrated especially by Bowie fans. The Odyssey and Oracle discussion next to the Bowie discussion reminds me of January 2017 where I listened to David Bowie all day long. The only other music I would listen to was O & O.

-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues
"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

Just got finished singing myself hoarse on all the Bowie songs I know how to play + sing, and now I’m listening to it back. Terrible sound quality on these demos but it was just a bit of fun

Haha oh no my weirdass jams are on the internet for all to hear I hope you enjoy them 1/3rd as much as I enjoyed making that racket.
Today being what it is, I’m listening to more Bowie. Currently it’s ‘Who Can I Be Now?’

The one track sounded like a Pagesque modal “White Summer”-style exercise, but where did you get the idea for variations on the CE3K theme using nothing but harmonics?

1) Yes, it was definitely a Pagesque pseudo-Eastern exercise, because that’s terribly fun to do (you basically just play weird scale intervals over a drone).
2) I don’t know, I’d been trying to find that series of notes in harmonics for some time. Finally I did find a bunch of new harmonics places and was a little too enthusiastic about it.
Currently listening to ‘Your Turn To Drive’ by David Bowie, which I’ve not heard before. I like it.

Just finished No Plan as well.
I’d been putting Blackstar off for a very long time, and it did not disappoint. Together with the No Plan EP, that was one hell of an emotional journey. I did my best to cry but couldn’t quite squeeze the tears out, alas*, but it was very moving nonetheless.
Lately I’ve been immersing myself so much in his music and his life that I’ve kind of forgotten that he died, and so hearing him sing about it (and, in the case of ‘No Plan’, sing apparently from the other side) made it so very real, but also beautiful, poetic in a kind of heartbreaking way. Closure, maybe, I dunno. Whatever the case — magnificent piece of work from an utterly majestic artist.
David Jones is dead. Forever live David Bowie.
*I can’t cry over anything, it’s a bit of a curse, no fault on the part of the music.

I don’t think I’ve ever made it all the way through Mother without at least getting a little choked up. The Rising Sun also gets me pretty emotional. I don’t think I’ve ever really full-blown cried while listening to music though.

To all of you saying you’ve never had music make you cry. You need to hear Paul’s Little Willow, it was originally written about Maureen, Ringo’s wife, who died from cancer.

For me it’s God that does that, in terms of John’s solo tracks. “I don’t believe in Beatles… I just believe in me” is just so powerful.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
