@sir walter raleigh It’s amazing how originally Dark Star was a 2 minute song and then they stretch it out to very long lengths. I have heard about a version from ’72 that lasted 48 minutes
Well, it depends how you define “original”. Dark Star was concieced in their San Francisco home as an extended instrumental jam that could go in any direction they chose. The release as a single was their attempt to appease the record companies and actually produce from the studio.
I bet proto-Dark Stars went on for hours and hours

This piece of magic:
Not as much magic as the original, though, of course. 😉

Beatlebug, WeepingAtlasCedarsNot once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. ‘In My Life ‘- an amazing song. One of the four’s best without a shadow of a doubt- everything in it is absolutely perfect!
I must confess to not having listened to the Fabs as much as I should recently but every now and again a line from a track rings in my head, and I just have to listen to the whole thing. It’s when you have a little break from them that you realise how truly amazing they were as a band. Absolute geniuses.
Also, I get a wee bit teary-eyed every time I listen to IML, I seem to gain an extra attachment to it every individual time I listen to it.
