One of the most moving performances I’ve ever seen, Johnny Cash’s last. He lost June Carter Cash on 15 May 2003. We lost him on 12 September 2003. On 7 July 2003, at the Carter Family Fold, he performed one last time. Heartbroken, almost blind, unable to stand without help, voice failing, it takes a hard heart not to be moved at what everybody there knows is a farewell. He performs Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk the Line, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Ring of Fire, Angel Band (which Emmylou Harris had performed at June’s memorial/funeral), Big River and the Dylan-inspired Understand Your Man.

Wow. That was really heartbreaking but also very beautiful. I find it incredible how some musicians seem to lose everything but they never lose their musicality. It reminded me a lot of the late Billie Holiday. She was only 34 years old when she died but had experienced enough horrible things for 100 years. Her voice was hoarse and her range diminished but still she put so much expression in her voice, one wouldn’t believe it.
Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

My little brother bought this single. It was a very long time ago. We always liked fade-outs and turned them up so we could hear every last drop (Beatles included) and this one had loads of the wacky monster party sounds at the end so they just had to be turned up 🙂 I remember we laughed at the way that amongst the cacophony of fading grunts and growls if you listen very carefully someone says (in a heavy Russian/Transylvanian accent) ‘Somebody stepped on my wing!’ Writing this I’m wondering now if it really existed but I’m sure it did and it does in my head anyway! 🙂

The sound of falling rain. Also ‘The Rain Song’ (my instrumental cover of it).

I’m listening to these 38 Nanci Griffith CDs that I ordered from eBay. Someone was selling a huge box of them. There were actually 46 of them, but three of the cases were empty and I already had 5 of them.
If you don’t know her, she’s an American folk/country/pop artist.

Oooh – that’s my favorite of theirs.“They choose the path where no one goes”
Gives me chills every time I hear it — I swear someone turned the AC down. So evocative.
