a new band (for me) — “C Sharp” — a group of Jamaicans whobegan in 2001. They write & perform heartfelt, honest, hopeful songs with a reggae lilt. This is one of their songs, “No More”:

I’m a big Neil Finn fan and he did something quite unusual this week. Over three Fridays in August he held a live youtube rehearsal leading up to a final Friday recording of his new album which was also recorded live on youtube so you could watch the whole recording and creative process. I think it’s quite an original idea and not sure if has been done before. There’s probably a slight parallel with Let it Be but of course that was recorded over a longer period and not in the same way. It’s a much more immersive way to experience an album. Here’s the final result which is four hours long but it’s still a remarkably short time time to record a whole album. The three rehearsals are also up on youtube.

Kinda cool! Having a woman sing these words adds a great new twist, although I was hoping for some Janis – style histrionics…Zeparella singer sounds like she has folk leanings, intriguing. Performance a bit too note-faithful but I like the guitarist’s wah/bow skills!

I was listening to that just the other day and reflecting how it may have been a precursor to “Levee” – if you slow it down to the right tempo and change the notes a bit, the riffing in the instrumental refrains is very similar. (Also unusual that the long coda Is given over to Plant vocal adlibs and Bonzo drum fills, rather than the expected Page guitar fireworks.)

Please Please Me (the album)
It’s funny how much I love this album and know the lyrics to every song considering this is my least favourite Beatles album. When Do You Want To Know A Secret and Baby It’s You came up I wished so much I could travel back in time to hug all four of them for making such warm and warming music.

Hehe, I know all the lyrics to my least favourite Beatles albums too — about no other band can I say that, not even Pink Floyd.
There’s a thread for that.
It strikes me that, just on this page, all I have to do now is post that I’m listening to Muse and I’ll have covered all the bases.
Therefore…
