I’ve heard of Wayne Shorter, will definetely check this out!
Going back to The Wall again, i’m prepared to give it a chance so will have a full listen soon. I’d say i’m much more of a fan of their more atmospheric stuff so i’m not confident that i’ll like it. Wish You Were Here is probably my favourite Floyd album

Haha, don’t let the album cover fool you! It may look like some kinda psychedelic-thing but it’s really just straightforward, typical ’60s post-bop.
A lot of jazz musicians began using trippy psychedelic album cover art in the late ’60s, presumably hoping it would appeal to hippies and increase their sales figures, which were terribly low. And at the same time, a lot of these musicians (along with blues musicians and the occasional Indian classical musician) were appearing at rock festivals and at concert bills as opening acts for the hip rock groups, because I guess the promoters figured that the rock fans would happily sit and groove to ANYTHING if they were stoned enough.

Interesting point, i’m not really familar with mid-late 60’s jazz so i’ll have to check that kind of stuff out. I’ve heard Bitches Brew though which I guess is the most famous example of a major jazz artist trying to appeal to all the hippy psychedelic rock lovers.
I’ve seen footage of Miles Davis at the 1970 Isle of Wight festival and the audience looked pretty into it.

Currently early Pink Floyd, a programme on BBC4 called ‘Pink Floyd Beginnings: 1967 – 1972’ and every song so far has sounded like some people bored fiddling around in the hope of finding a tune and failing miserably. Currently, someone is stuck saying “the heart of the song”; he’s been given a whack and the song has finished.
It sounds like inane ramblings that if done by anyone else would be chastised as pretentious drivel. I had to turn off during something about Eugene and an axe. I’d have suggested taking the axe and destroying the instruments as it was utterly atrocious garbage.
