Am: Drive-By Truckers — American Band
Note that the album title doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the Grand Funk Railroad song with a similar name.
Next: Wilco — Schmilco
Note that the album title doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the Harry Nilsson album with a similar name. Similarly, Wilco’s last album, Star Wars, doesn’t have anything to do with the movie nor the Reagan-era missile defense system with the same name.
Back to DBT, there’s a song on the album that could be added to the “Beatles referenced in other songs” list — “Once They Banned Imagine .” Refers to the list of songs the Clear Channel recommended their DJs not play in the days immediately after 9/11, one of which was “Imagine .” The list also included Ticket To Ride , A Day In The Life , Ob La Di, Ob La Da, and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds . Go figure!
The song’s chorus:
But once they banned Imagine it became the same old war it’s always been
Once they banned Imagine it became the war it was when we were kids

as per my friend’s recommendation. (Hey, I’ll listen to almost anything if it means I can turn him on the the Beatles and the Floyd in return. )

@Beatlebug, believe it or not, the kazoo is what turned me on to post-Syd Floyd. My parents were never into Pink Floyd, so I had to buy their music myself. I went in sequence, and when I got to A Saucerful Of Secrets and heard Corporal Clegg I fell in love immediately.
Now I’m listening to Buffalo Springfield Again… Again! I have been listening to this album all of the time. It is magical.
