Avett Brothers — True Sadness
When I moved to North Carolina 10 years ago (having been a lifelong New England resident), I had this notion that I should try to get back to my “Southern Rock” roots — as Southern Rock was a big thing for me in my late teens/early 20s.
Getting “back” to those roots really meant trying to find local/regional bands I hadn’t yet discovered. Avett Brothers was one of my first, and one of the best…along with Drive-By Truckers, JJ Grey and Mofro, American Aquarium, Jason Isbell, Shovels & Rope, Band of Horses, Justin Townes Earle (I was already a Steve Earle fan), Hayes Carll, Elizabeth Cook, and more.
And maybe we were “meant” to move south: six months before we first knew we’d be moving, we acquired a dog named Dixie…

Good song that, I really like the calm self-confidence in the words, not to mention Dave’s gently lilting vocal. It’s a Watching The Wheels kind of song: ‘I know who I am and what I’m doing, and I refuse to let others Meddle with that.’ (See what I did there? ) And yet it’s contrasted nicely with the crowd singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, saying that you have someone behind you in your endeavours, so you don’t have to be self-reliant all the time. (I just noticed that just this minute, by the way.)
That’s a keen interpretation @Beatlebug . I always thought the You’ll Never Walk Alone coda was some sort of English soccer reference that I didn’t get. Your read on it makes a lot of sense (maybe the bands friendly way of lending Dave support).

I only let myself listen to at New Year’s time. To keep it properly sacred to the holiday and that.

Pink Floyd interpretation is one of my favouritest hobbies, just ask the members of the Pink Floyd Sound — I can get over-zealous. But ya know, if you can’t theorise about Pink Floyd, then what can you theorise about?

It actually comes from this (a shout-out to @Zig for pointing me toward it ):
So yes, it is an English soccer reference (Roger Waters is a keen fan), but it’s not the band yodelling it — one would hope they’d have sung in key, being professional musicians and all.
And Liverpool too — funny little world it is!

I’m glad you are still enjoying that video I sent to you. I remember your excitement when I showed you that LiverFloydian connection.
I still enjoy that vid as well. I smile every time I see the Liverpool supporters flashing those red & white scarves just like the one mithveaen and her sister knitted for me. Hard to believe that was nearly six years ago.

Yet another CD extricated from the depths of the family collection of dust-gatherers: The Best Of Simon & Garfunkel. ‘The 59th Bridge Street Song (Feelin’ Groovy)’ right now.
There are quite a few very nice tracks on here that I’ve not heard before — I wish I’d pulled out out before!

Ah, Simon & Garfunkel. One of the few 60’s groups left that can still reunite with all it’s original members.

‘Soft-Hearted Hana’ at the moment.
I have been on a Beatles kick — the only non-Beatles album I’ve listened to all day was Wish You Were Here.
