George’s eponymous album a-hard-days-night-george-4

It’s very grey in Sillyland, and I was feeling a bit under the weather, so I took Georgie’s advice and let it Blow Away, blow away, blow away. a-hard-days-night-george-9

I’m seeing Bruce Sunday night, getting primed early.  This show was recorded about 6 weeks before my first Springsteen show, which to this day I count as the best concert I’ve ever seen (as does my wife, and many consider the “Darkness” tour to be his best).

So much that show!  Cancelled!  I’m supportive of Bruce’s reason for cancelling, but that’s not the same as being happy about it!

I don’t see how upsetting a bunch of concertgoers does anything to change the way the politicians react to issues. To my mind singing a few protest songs at the show and having a few folks walk out in disgust and the news reports it generates is far more fair and effective.

Look at what Neil Young did on his Living With War tour – it would have been far less effective if he had cancelled his shows in the deep south.

I’m also not sure how this changes things either, to be sure.  There is a cumulative effect here of sorts, with a few companies pulling back from planned expansions into NC, the NBA under pressure to pull the 2017 All Star Game from Charlotte…the Springsteen cancellation gets pulled into that list (based on lost revenue for Greensboro) in the local media reports.  The governor is trying to pull back on the law he signed as a result of the pressure, though not to the extent that would please me, so maybe we’ll see some progress.  Or maybe not, I can’t say that I’m overly optimistic.  Jimmy Buffett called it a “stupid law” but isn’t cancelling his upcoming shows (though hinting about future bookings).  We’ll see!
