Oh. There’s an actual released song from a year earlier with the same title that Ringo’s All-Starr Band covered in ’97-’98.

Giving the Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother a first listen (I’ve heard bits of it):
I haven’t heard this in at least 40 years and even then never once before midnight @Beatlebug . I tried to listen but it’s just to weird at work. My brother reminded me about this outtake from The Final Cut album (perhaps Roger’s last PF song?). It’s not for the faint-of-heart but worth a listen as a clue to the source of Roger’s understandable angst.

Hmm… wow, agreed. Fortunately I’m not the faint-of-atom-heart. The vocal sounds The Wall-esque.
That Roger is a real character

An interesting track. Originally part of The Wall project, but rejected by the others. It was recorded for, and was the first single from, The Final Cut – which was originally meant to be the soundtrack album for The Wall film before the Falklands war turned it into a whole new album, resulting in it being left off the album.
In the film, the first verse is used at the beginning, while the second verse occurs after Another Brick in the Wall Part 1.

Thanks @Ron Nasty, I always thought the song sounded vaguely familiar but I couldn’t place it. SG picked up on the Wall-era vocal. I haven’t seen The Wall movie for a while so I’m going to check it out soon.
The song itself always brings to mind a letter my grandmother showed me once. Her brother was in the army and fought in The Battle of the Bulge. I guess he knew how dire the situation was and wrote her to say goodbye. I was a kid but remember how poignant and comforting his writing was, stating he was not in pain and not afraid. He summed up by listing all the things he loved about living including growing up with her. He was killed soon after and she showed me the western union telegram and the official letter with the presidential seal. I also think of a story a former boss once shared. He was a Londoner and told be about the Blitz during WW2 and the evacuations of the women and children to the countryside. He recalled how quit the streets were during the day with no children about. He said that after the war the parents of over 25,000 kids could not be located. I wonder about their state of mind and how life worked out for them.
Oh-oh, sorry for the derail. In fact it’s a double derail because I thought I was writing in the Pink Floyd thread . At least I was listening to Big Barn Bed while I wrote this.
