Watching the DVD from this CD + DVD set:
the liner notes mention Abbey Road as a partial inspiration, but I’m not hearing it. Fun anyway!

Love of my life by Queen. It’s really heartbreaking, this one!
I love that song! One of my favorites from the A Night At The Opera album
Right now, I’m listening to Dirty Boys by David Bowie. I really love this song so much

Silly Girl enjoyed Band On The Run
Thanks @pepperland, I like it.
Last summer we listened to Band On The Run at a family reunion. Later after all the kids went to bed, my Mom and I were chatting about the fun day. In a Silly Mum sort of way she considers herself knowledgeable about the Beatles music. In actuality she only truly knows 1 song. I used to play that song very loud early in the morning to help wake up. Somehow the whirling noise in the song really stimulated my teenage brain waves. One morning at day break she came down the stairs screaming that she couldn’t take it anymore. Since then we lovingly refer to that song as Tomorrow Never Knows (Turn Down That Noise!)Anyway this was her comment about BOTR which she assumed was a Beatles LP; “You can always tell the John songs apart from the Paul songs. Paul always sings about his toys (Let Me Roll It I assume) and John always sings about his Mom (perhaps Mamunia 🙂 ). I nodded in agreement…me Mum.

^ I love Queen, I listened to all of their ’73-’82 works in school one day, that was a productive day
And seeing as we’re speaking of Bowie as well, here’s one of my favourite songs of his:

Freddie’s voice is just unbelievable on Love of my life.
Btw, it’s Thank you for the music now. Without a little bit of ABBA, what are we!
How did the world go from having such good singers to these days?

Probably just the evolution of music, I guess. Tho, I personally think not all music these days are crap, but the super popular stuff drives me insane

As a wise person once said “music just hasn’t been the same since ugly people weren’t allowed to sing anymore”.
Nowadays you have to be good-looking and sexy to make the Top-40 in the vast majority of cases.
So is the world.

@natureaker No it isn’t. But it’s probably just a handful of songs here and there. But I couldn’t call it evolution, I think.

An oldie but … etcVivaldi’s Four Seasons by I Musici with Michelucci on the violin.
I had to listen to something catchy after listening to some 12-tone music by Webern and Schoenberg.
The 12-tone is the equivalent of modern art in a gallery, the Vivaldi is more like a Leonardo painting.
Last time I heard Four Seasons it was performed by a string quartet at the San Francisco Symphony Hall. They performed the entire work which must have been exhausting. I always think that musicians don’t get enough credit for their physical stamina. There were a lot of first timers there who applauded loudly after the first movement. In a show of audience solidarity we all joined in and even the first violin stood up and took a little bow. The entire symphony came out for the second half and played a moving version of Tchaikovsky’s Serenade For Strings Op. 48 which made for a perfect pairing. It was a matinee in April, so we exited the hall into a bright spring day. In particular I remember tulips blooming in flower boxes and an unusual warm breeze blowing off of the bay. My mind (and ears) were very happy that afternoon.

Actually, what I’m really digging right now is ‘Some People Never Know’ off Wild Life . I was just listening to ‘Mamunia’ that day.
…Only fools could disagree that it’s so, some people never know. (I’m sure you’re not some people, @sigh butterfly. )

Yeah, not all of it’s bad. The Dala Girls– a Canadian folk-pop duo whom I consistently champion– are good. They write well, sing well, and are Beatles fans, so how can you go wrong?

Wow @Beatlebug ! I didn’t really think I’d meet another Dala Girls fan! My favourite is Lennon & McCartney of course, but I love Levi Blues, and their cover of Moon River is amazing! I wonder whether you’ve heard of the MonaLisa Twins? They’re a sort of a Beatle tribute band (and they’re really good at covering Beatles songs), but they write their own as well. If you like Dala Girls, you might like them as well.

Anyway, I’m listening to

Either way, ’tis bliss!
