I bought the FFS album on Monday and love it. Franz Ferdinand and Sparks are two of my favourite bands so I’m happy they got together. Shame they’re not playing live near me, though I’ve seen both bands before.

Sounds intriguing @Joe. Will have to hunt down a copy.

Courtney Barnett. She’s Australian, which explains much but not all.
I got “into her” when I saw this video. It’s a little … I thought it was funny.

I’ve got the Sea of Split Peas compilation, but I haven’t heard the debut album yet. I’ve been meaning to pick up a copy. I like her style.

French Actress Jeanne Moreau (born in 1928, and still kicking!), singing a little folk ditty in a scene in the famous Francois Truffaut movie Jules et Jim (1962).
Over 30 years later, Mme. Moreau was pleasantly surprised at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995 when the French singing sensation Vanessa Paradis (known for being Johnny Depp’s latest gf) came out on stage and began singing the same song to her, sitting right in the front row. Soon enough, as the viewer sees, the elder stateswoman of French Cinema starts singing along, then stands up to walk to the stage where Vanessa kneels down to hold her hand as they finish this charmingly touching song together. The two of them would go on to make a movie together in 1997 (Un amour de sorcière — English title “Witch Way Love”).

A Mike Oldfield night.
The Songs of Distant Earth (based on the Arthur C. Clarke science fiction novel); immediately preceded by:
one of his more unusual albums – with some very odd moments (hap hap happy?) along with some of his most sublime (and yes, he used the name long before Volkswagen did).

So I was listening to Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim, and I thought ”those violin bits must have been sampled”. So after a bit of research I figured out those bits were sampled from a song by James Gang, called Ashes, the rain and I, a song from 1970. I will post a link to a decent sounding version, but the first version I found on Youtube, was one off an old, used vinyl, which sounded a bit cracky, and the violins were out of tune, which gave it a bit of a spooky effect. Anyway, it’s a nice song, and here’s a decent version:
