That looks really cool, and I’ve actually seen Oldfield and co play the original!

Nice – green with envy – I’m a really mad Mike Oldfield fan, have been forever.
The show was really good, both watching them jump from instrument to instrument and the quality of the performance, they also had a great audience reaction. They’ve been doing it for 6 years now – I’d really recommend BBers in the UK and USA catch any of their shows if they come to your town.

It was way back on his Five Miles Out Tour, I saw him in Brisbane at the old Festival Hall, they didn’t pull a big crowd tho, so we had front-row seats and it was fantastic. They did selections from Incantations too which has been my favourite Oldfield ever since. Which reminds me, I need to get hold of the 2011 reissue, I’ve never heard the full Part Three!

Nice – that’s where I saw Paul and Wings back in 1975 I think it was.
I have all of Mike Oldfield’s albums except the latest (once again JB had none in the store so it’s waiting for my next online purchasing spree along with Postcards) – I’m not sure how I missed the concert.

Way back in the early 80s, before I knew any of his music I saw part of a TV doc about him wherein he mentioned overdubbing something so many times that the tape basically disintegrated. Do you know anything about that, trc? (ie. the exact documentary in question, or which recordings he was talking about?)
Listening to some classic American underground punk from ’76 (warning: lyrics VERY cheerfully dirty! You must be over 18 to listen.)

Hi @Von Bontee , I’m afraid I can’t pin down the exact documentary, though I recall him talking about it way back when. He had trouble with the technology on a few of his early albums but the most notable was on his third album, Ommadawn, where most of the original version of the first side was lost.
The insert on the Five Miles Out LP gives a pretty good idea of the sort of things he tried to do back then:

I also saw Elton John, Eric Clapton, Split Enz and U2 there (not at the same time, I hasten to add!). Even Devo played there!
edit: yes Oldfield is a huge early-adopter of technology and music software. He’s been plugging my favourite sequencer Fruity Loops for some time now.

Yes – it was even the name of one of the tracks on his ‘Light & Shade’ album which also came with some rudimentary tools to remix some of the tracks.

Wow – we might have been at the same Elton John concert. I saw him there on one tour and then again at the Milton Tennis courts I think it was?

The one I went to was in the 80s with his original band (which I was really happy about), and when he first came out he was wearing some sort of suit with blinking lights on it! I’m not sure if it was the 1980 tour or the 1982 tour (there’s very little on the 80 tour for 21 at 33), but whatever album was out hardly mattered because he played all the big hits.

No, seriously, was just doing a bit of Harrison’s Best of Dark Horse . Now that dreadful synth from “Wake Up My Love” is in my head.

Dreadful? All in the ears of the beholder.

I was watching this show called Treme which takes place New Orleans after Katrina. So, I was listening to a bit of jazz. Now I’m about to listen to The Who. I’m going to see then next weekend at Jazz Fest in NOLA (New Orleans). I can hardly wait. And of course Ringos son is the drummer.
